| Picking up my new TDV6 at the weekend |

Getting quite excited now  but nervous too  with all these reported electrical glitches and suspension faults. I'll be running the car in immediately with a 300 mile journey so I could do with a few pointers to check at the dealers. I don't really want to be arguing about software upgrades and the like but anything practical such as the suspension ECU connection check (mentioned in another thread) would help avoid a nightmare trip. Thanks for any tips.
Also, this is my first diesel & 4x4. Is there only one diesel type or can you choose a higher performance one similar to Shell's Optimax?
Oh, another question  , can you lock the car without setting the alarm, say by using the key rather than the remote?
How easy is the SatNav to understand? Again it's all new to me and I'll be travelling almost immediately so I've no time to get familiar with it. Is it easy enough to just punch in a postcode and go?
I'll make a note of the fuel consumption too for your interest.

I was nervous too, but all has been fine, once I finally left the dealer. To lock the car when dogs or children are in it you need to press the lock button on the key twice, unlock as usual. I'm a technophobe and I basically understand the sat nav, it is quite logical. I have it set up so the car is driving up the screen rather than north to the top, but play about with it to see how you like it. It will take a few weeks to get it set how you like it.
The dealer should set up things like lazy entry, auto wipers, auto lights (although these last 2 are very simple) also program the radio and put home in the sat nav. The more you play with the bits the better you understand, you're going to love it 8)

I've had no problems after the ECU connector was re-seated. Only other 'issues' have been the lack of the Settings Menu in the Trip Computer and a rattle in the head lining by the rear passenger courtesy lights.
So no too bad.
As far as fuel goes I use the new Esso Energy diesel. Seems to give better MOG and more range (around 540 miles on a tank). BP Ultimate diesel would also be a good choice but is expensive compared to other fuels.

Possibly the slowest week in history since I picked up my Porsche . Thanks for the tips but 'lazy entry'  ...whats that, climbing in though the window  . As long as the suspension doesn't collapse and the engine pack up I'll be a happy man.
Possibly the thing I'm most looking forward to most is sitting ten feet higher up looking over the countryside and traffic. Possibly the thing I'm least looking forward to is having stereo controls on the second row (kids  ) and washing the roof . 2005 TDV6 SE Silver/Black Manual + Alpine

Lazy entry allows you to program individual keys with settings - eg your key has your seat etc settings & your wife's has her settings (fine if you each always use your own key & assumes that you have memory seats. Of more interest are the auto-locking facility (when reach 5mph) and the facility to set to unlock just drivers door at first press, then 2nd press for rest of doors. Best bet is trying the features & posting for advice as you go along!

Have fun in your new D3  Not as fast as the Porche, unless being dropped vertically in a vacuum! but far more rewarding to drive, plus you can see further into distance over the other cars.
If you have the 7 seater, you can alway imprison/banish the kids to the far rear of the car, use the line that they'll have more space (you can make the 2nd row disappear into the floor) so at least they'll be further away.
I haven;t tried the passenger stereo controls on mine yet, but I was to believe that this only controlled the individual earphones, not the vehicle's speaker system, and also the CD when not being used by the infotainment centre. However if like the D2 they do get another radio receiver, which I guess is shared between the individual controls rather than each being able to listen to a different station. I will check this out on mine.

I think JC on Top Gear was incorrect. The rear controls need headsets to work - at least thats what my kids tell me! I've not been in the back yet!

Further to my mail yesterday, I did sit in the back of my D3 with headphones one and went one by one around the various seperate multi-media points.
Hmmm, Yes if the drivers isn't listening to the CD then the back has full control of the CD and multichanger, but what worries me is if the people in the back wish to listen to radio, they can "fight" with the driver, unlike on the D2 where they have a seperate receiver. Thererfore the people in the back can annoy the life out of the driver by constantly changing the radio station. What rocket scientist thought of that one!
