Faulty Fuel Guage- for two years on a D4

This is becoming a saga. For two years the display has shown empty when full warning or now just stuck on 3/4 full. Being investigated under warranty, for the third time and they have had the car three days now and it is going onto next week. Suggestions from garage it may be a short or electrical fault as the senders in the tank have already been replaced. Anyone else had similar, if it is electrical gremlins is it time to say good bye? Any helpful suggestions?

Hi Duffs,
That's atypical. Give them time to sort it.

Hi Bushwanderer,
Called them today, still no joy. That is 10 working days on this fault and no joy. It would be cheaper to give me a new one Rolling with laughter
Don't know what they would do if I had a major problem- on second thoughts lets not go there it might be tempting fate!

Hi Duffs,
I understand your frustration. Sad

Have you considered taking it to another dealer?

The car is in bits! Checking the loom. I will give it another day and as you say let another stealer have a go!

Sorted. In the end it was a fault in the sender in the inner section of the tank that had been replaced. Apparently the replacement unit was faulty which started the great mystery tour. I miss my permanent ' 3/4 tank full ' it is back to always empty now👍

BE REALLY GLAD.....

it wasn't the oil level gauge...
wrong fuel level you get used to....brim the tank & drive it...the actual amount is relative as you learn when to fill it up...the inaccuracy is either it risks you running out of fuel...or you fill up before you really need to.
Wrong Oil Level - radically different..either the engine is too full & that means there is too much oil splashed up to cylinder bores or worse...too little & the oil pump may be starved of oil when cornering ....premature wear to camshafts.

Is it worth asking Land Rover through a campaign on here to make or dearly beloved vehicles simple & fundamental where it is critical things have to work & complex (& failure can be tolerated where it doesn't.

Electronic handbrakes.
electronic oil level sensors
Dipped beam sensors

or make dip sticks an accessory

then we move on to swollen wheel nuts.....it just doesn't happen on other makes
 BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.
Founder: Dipsticks-R-Us Inc
D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

Keep it simple and they tend to ; last, work and are easy to repair. Oil, water and fuel levels are basic essentials for any vehicle they should not be hidden behind fancy unreliable electrics. The dip stick who thought this was progress needs to re think?
