DD meant that LT had read your price difference as 18p per litre (as I did too ) Not 18p per gallon which is what you actually said!DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

COMMANDO, I agree about the cost of running petrol v. diesel, but it's totally down to mileage p.a.
In my case I do c.18k miles p.a
Assuming that average mpg on a V8 is 20mpg & on a TDV6 27mpg, then using 85.9p per litre for petrol & 90.9p for diesel you would over 18k miles spend £2,752p.a on diesel & £3,513p.a on petrol.
Thus, diesel will save me c.£761 p.a.
Depends what you pay for your re-map, I got a good price via a friends garage.
As for depreciation, time will tell but I was advised by everyone I spoke to that a V8 will depreciate faster than a TDV6.
Without checking, doesn't the V8 cost more to buy new?
Agree about the additional insurance aggro.
Personally, having a great deal of experience with re-mapped engines I'm happy that the way I drive & care for my D3 will result in no reliability/warranty issues relating to the re-map.
Each to their own though.

Using your numbers LT thats £761 per annum, or, if you keep it three years £2283 over your ownership. That's a lot more than having your car chipped.
Mileage would need to be quite low to make the sums add up, and that's without taking into account higher v8 depreciation.
Just looked at LR used vehicle finder. V8s look cheaper than TDs, and they cost more in the first place.

If you do low mileage, maybe there is a case for buying a used V8. Still would be wary about depreciation though, unless you were happy to hold on to it for ages.
Thing is though, a re-mapped TDV6 has a lot more torque at low revs. than a V8. So it really isn't a easy decision as to which is preferable to drive & I'm a die hard V8 man, having owned at least one V8 engined vehicle for the past 17 years.
I reckon the average 20mpg figure used in the 'comparison' for the V8 is a tad optimistic
My 4ltr V8 ES Disco was averaging closer to 15mpg and my Turbochipped TDV6 is closer to 30mpg. That would certainly skew the ownership costs a lot further towards the TC'd TDV6. Furthermore, I reckon my diesel is (almost significantly) quicker than the V8 was. Never driven a D3V8 so I can't say if it is much better than the old one
Sorry folks (Mossy ), I just can't see a case for the V8 at all

I think you're right. Although on the motorway at the sort of speeds that I average 27mpg in my TDV6, I did get 20mpg from a V8 over c.50 miles.
With a heavy right foot, I'd imagine low teens or even single figures would be easily achieved in a V8.
I managed between 9 & 12mpg round the town in my V8. Needed a good run at 70mph to acheive 20........

Had the chip fitted this morning, the guys were great Car pulls alot smoother and I appear to be getting about 3.5mpg more than I was! All I have done is reset the av mpg then gone on a usual days trundle. I have noticed that the box seems to slect higher gears alot sooner and that the lag has been reduced. I'll keep you posted on the mpg figures.
PS Turbo chip bods I am not a nerd I just like lots of wires 'n' buttons 'n' stuff. Anyway your laptop looks like a 'speak and spell'
