Hi, I have been getting a creak from the rear of my car when going over potholes or uneven road over the last couple of weeks, so today had my partner drive the car (I know what was I thinking ) around the block using a road which has some speed bumps, whilst I sat in the rear trying to find where the noise is coming from. The noise seems to be from the rear tailgate and can be easily reproduced by pushing slightly on the inside of the tailgate in the area where the top and bottom meet on both the left and right side.
I have checked the Struts as has been posted and they seem fine, so has anybody already had this problem or is it a common problem that my dealer should know about already ?
P.S My initial thought was that it was the spare wheel so I gave this a nudge with my foot and it was very loose, so I tightened it up, but considering the vehicle is only 6 weeks old this is a bit of a concern and might be worth a check to see if yours has become loose also.

Is there any adjustment in the upper tailgate wedges?
This may get rid of a bit of the freeplay and eliminate the rattle.
Otherwise it's a trip to your stealers I'm afraid. Arctic Frost RR Sport. TDV6 SE. Aspen Leather, Tow pack, PTI, Privacy Glass, Tasmods, Mudflaps & a RRSport umbrella in the boot.

Same here, my dealer told me they had installed some "isolation" (invisible to me). I only noticed silicon spray on all seals. Anyway I do hear a lot less creak noise. TDV6 (Belgian) HSE '06

i have had this ...if you stand at the back of the car and you push the top part of the tailgate(glass) at either side (just above the lower part of the tailgate) it squeeks.
I spray silicone grease on the two hard rubber stops on the underside of the glass and it stop's.
Hope this makes sence ..if not i will post a picture of what im on about G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Guys thanks for the replies, I have taken a look again today and see the 2 wedges that are bolted to the opening for the upper tailgate and then the 2 that seem to be spring loaded on the tailgate itself. The ones on the tailgate just move about, but do seem to have some sort of ratchet system although the spring is so weak that I can't see this being particularly effective. TB which adjustment were you refering to for the wedges ?
Thanks
Simon

I just picked up an LR3, had the same trouble, I read the forum and put a blob of grease on each of the metal wedges that are attached to the side body.... The car is now whisper quiet !

Cecil the wedges fixed to the body apperture have a small amount of play. If you slacken the bolts you may get about 1mm of play. This could take up the freeplay you described.
Have you checked that the wedges on the upper tailgate have still got the rubber "nipples" in place? These have been known to fall off occasionally. Arctic Frost RR Sport. TDV6 SE. Aspen Leather, Tow pack, PTI, Privacy Glass, Tasmods, Mudflaps & a RRSport umbrella in the boot.

Have had the same issue with my 2 month old HSE since new. Now enlightened, and armed with a tube of all-purpose grease, I will tackle the problem this weekend. Ciao and thanks.
