Bearmach & D3 underbody protection
Bearmach are advertising underbody protection for a D3 on the back of the last LRO. They have no details of it on their website (that I can find), anyone have any more info??

think the catalogue is disappointing!
thought they would have produced some new retro fit gear rather than just copy original LR accessories. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

Just got some more derails from the Cardiff Bearmach branch. They are just out so folks there are a bit in the dark but below is a couple of pics of what they have:
There is also a kit to protect the bumper and one for the radiator. How they fit & where, I've no idea but they are supposed to be fitted with no cutting of bumper (though guy that showed me thinks that there might need some) The above pics are the "underbody kit" at £240 + VAT, again supposed to be no drilling. Look like 4 - 5mm aluminium, fixing kits have not been sorted out yet. No sign of the ones that are on the back page of LRO showing sill protection plates (or what look like that), time will tell!

Pity it's only 4 or 5 mm - completely useless might as well use baking foil and chewing gum make it out of 8mm and stick another £100 - £150 to on the price and it'd be decent kit

That was from me just looking at it & thinking after I left "How thick was that???" Doh!
It does not seem as thick as the Mantec plate though. I'll be passing again next week so will drop in with my trusty ruler & see what the real thickness is.
PS I moved them around to take the pics & they were not that heavy.

looking at the photo's I think your guess is pretty much spot-on
no idea on the weight difference between 8mm and 5mm - a quick google didn't give me any leads either, guess RLD is the one to answer that

8mm ally is about 21.7kg per square metre ....according to my calculations...but I was converting from imperial to metric so cut me some slack if I cocked up somewhere
0.1inch ally is 1.410 lb per square foot21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

If i were a picky sort of person i'd probably step in at this point and say that it all depends on which alloy of aluminium is being used, but i'm not that sort of person so wont even mention it D3 TDV8 HSE on order, Should Arrive 2017. If i'm lucky.

There are different grades of ally. The stronger it is the less bendable it is.
Two options
1 Use thicker weaker bendy ally to form the shapes required to make things like under body protection. Cheap
2 Use the stronger stiffer ally and end up cutting it into the forms required and weld it into the shapes required. ExpensiveIn the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

No because the stronger stiffer ally will not bend at all it will just crack. So production costs are a lot higher. Cut then weld rather than simply bend. There is nothing wrong with using the softer bendy stuff then welding up the weak bits, it keeps production costs down but material costs are higher as the bendy stuff cost more Hope that made sense In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Well clearer than the moon post. Have you got a theoretical challenge to see if the moon roading is possible?Bodsys Brake Bible
