And just like tyres, no one solution suits all. Plough through as much as poss to get balanced view, plus anything you do go for read (and understand) the small print, esp what is & isn't covered.

I'd recommend Warranty Direct, probably cost around £600 per year, for comprehensive warranty, including wear and tear, even items arising from service.
Try and get them to remove the 'betterment clause' which means that you have to contribute towards cost of replacement when it will leave the car in a better state than before.
Also, if you want cover on wear and tear to commence immediately, you can pay them around £50 to inspect the car, then you don't have a 90 day period during which wear and tear is not covered.
When it comes to claims, ideally ask them for a recommended repairer. I think 90% of the nightmare people have with claims is down to garages which don't like to deal with warranty companies, but some of them love dealing with warranty companies, and do it extremely well.
My WD cover also covers 2 weeks of courtesy car rental at up to £350 per week.
They paid out for a transmission rebuild on my FFRR S/C, initially it was a nightmare due to the first company not liking warranty companies, then I got it transferred to a company which deals with them a lot, and it was easy peasy!

From memory you can haggle for : no betterment, dealer rates, air bags & emissions, get as high cover as you can, and 13 months for the price of 10. Don't expect everything to be covered, for that you need the manufacturer's original 3 year warranty, but the wear & tear cover deals with lots of issues. Been with them for 2 1/4 years & bought 2 years cover at last renewal.
Their way of doing business is odd. You get an initial price then they phone you with the special of the day, which improves the more you think about it. Treat em mean, keep em keen.
