Guys
Somebody I work with is locked out of his D3 because it appears both key fobs have lost their charge.
One is never used, and as the D3 has only been used for very short journeys for weeks the other one doesn't appear to be charged.
Unfortunately it also appears that before his ownership somebody has changed the ignition switch or locks as neither key fits the door lock to open it manually.
I’ve read on here that taping your spare key to the one you’re driving with can often revive a dead key and get some charge in it.
Question is, can I drive around with a different D3s key taped to mine to get some charge in it? Or will it cause some issues with it not being the right Code etc.
Thanks
Nasher(and friend) Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.

My bet is it could be the door lock is seized through lack of use, squirt some WD 40 in the lock, give it a little time to work then gently try to turn, one way then the other. As for charging the key I believe it has to be inserted into the ignition lock to charge. If that does not work there is another way that involves a length of stiff rod but not for all eyes to see. Hope that helps, Dave.

You can certainly charge your own key by rubber banding it to the other one, cant think why it would not work for another key, worht a try before breaking a window!

The inductive charging shouldn't care whose D3 it parasites off, the immobilizer is only interested when you try to start the car with that foreign key....

Hi All,
I am the unlucky guy whos D3 is stuck at my wifes work.
I have sprayed maintenance spray into the passenger lock but the key only turns about 45 degrees then feels like it will break. Not WD40 so I will try that again in the morning to see if that is better.
Any other tips to get in would be very much appreciated before I call the RAC to see if they can do anything.
I assume even if I get in through the passenger side, the alarm will go off if the remote is not working??
Again assuming I do get in, is there a way to silence the alarm quickly without the remote?
Here's hoping.

I was told that WD40 and locks don't mix as WD40 isn't a lubricant as such.
You're correct that if you haven't remote "unlocked" before one or other doors open the alarm will trigger. However as the immobilizer circuit is not dependent on a good battery in the fob (more RF magic) I think that putting the key in the ignition and turning it on may shut down the alarm and you can be on your way. I would expect once the immobilizer recognizes you as a "friend" it should shut down the alarm.
It absolutely should be possible to start the car with your key even if the fob battery is deader than a Norwegian Blue. Beautiful plumage the Norwegian Blue. <sorry>

Thank you Stu.
I will give the lock another attempt in the morning.
I thought the Norwegian Blue was just resting

Hi Guys,
Just an update on the locked Disco;
I gave another good sqirt of spray and spent a while gently rotating the lock back and forth.
All of a sudden I heard the central locking open all other doors apart from the passenger door with the key in!
Now I cannot guarantee that I did not press the unlock button on the keyfob at the same time, but this didn't work before as we know.
The alarm did not go off when I got in and started the car no problems at all.
Neither key will still not open or close using the remote even after leaving them in the ignition while running for quite some time.
I am now suspect of the receiver in the car rather than the keyfobs??
FYI for people who do not know, the lock on the passenger door does not need to turn 90 degrees as I first thought top unlock.
45 degrees clockwise to unlock - 45 degrees anti-clockwise to lock.
(found the hard way as I was turning anti-clockwise assuming that is unlock!! DOH)
