2006 vs 2007

I keep hearing about how much better and more economical the 2007 spec D3's are than the 2006 spec. Is this purely software / mapping, or are they mechanical differences. If it's the former, is it worth me going and getting JE to reload my remap over a later version of the LR base maps?
