Im thinking of changing my 2010 HSE and just want to make sure im thinking right
255 with 8 speed paddles yes please
auto wipers / lights essential
DAB essential
Nav no thanks
Leather no thanks
Cruise nice but not essential
Sunroof not needed
Xenons would like but can upgrade
Parking sensors rear essential
Possibly lower insurance
Memory seats not required, only driver
I can change mine for a nearly new GS for just a couple of £k
Am i correct in thinking a GS with bright pack would fit my needs have i missed anything,?

All my discoveries have been GS. My early D3 had nothing on- no bright pack. Only option on that was auto box (back when manual was standard on lower models) and the XS 18 inch alloys rather than 17"s. It was a bit sparse but still the best car i'd ever owned at the time.
However, in the 2009 D4 I had upgraded trim inserts, bright pack and roofrails!!! This was a GS though being an early D4 GS opted for the 3.0 rather than 2.7 to make it feel like an new car even more!! this for me with its Bluetooth connection all the terrain response and air suspension gubbins a silky Auto and the big engine made me think- you have all the power, offroad buttons, road presence and mechanical equipment (bar a locking read diff not even all HSE's have that) and its over £10,000 cheaper than a HSE.
Hence why my new MY13 is also a GS. It has many convenience features such as Bluetooth I have bright back and roofrails again (the rain sensing wipers auto lights and auto dip rear mirror) are all making the car more usable- without adding loads onto the build price like in my opinion a HSE does. But has the great SDV6 engine so it's no different to drive than a £53,000 HSE. And in old age- less to go wrong.
HSE's are still truly special with the panoramic sunroofs and all the kit. But for my use I'd keep the £11,000 you'd save and still spec up a GS a bit!!
Stick on a full size spare a towpack and mudflaps too!!! And go silver!! The best colour! 2023 Ineos Grenadier 3.0 Diesel Commercial

Lets have a joint D3/D4 GS owners club. We can have our own meets and discuss all the extras we dont have, therefore less goes wrong with our cars.... Man with no D3 anymore, but cant leave the forum....how sad.

The least I would go for is the XS ... You can add more stuff than you could with the GS G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

I changed my MY10 HSE for an MY12 XS
I dont miss anything except the memory seats/dipped reversing mirrors. Like you I didnt want the glass roof, sunroof, HBA etc
I added the electric seat/armrest pack and the rear view camera. And as the infotainment systems and the Phone intergtaion is a lot better in my MY12 - overall I was very happy, and the £250per month I saved went towards buying an FL2 Duncan

I changed from a 2006 D3 SE to a 2012 D4 HSE. The HSE has more toys, but then again I like gadgets. Was it worth it in money terms, probably not, but the lure of gadgets was too great.
Personally, I would never consider a GS.

Well some people like their gadgets I suppose. Others can be more pragmatic and learn to survive without a electric steering column or leather seats.
Plus I can change every 2-3 years with a GS if i had a HSE I'd have to keep it longer risking more stuff going wrong. 2023 Ineos Grenadier 3.0 Diesel Commercial

Why would we be doing that if such a thing existed? We'd just be talking about the car that is exactly the same to drive and performs the same (probably a little better with less weight).

Thats not strictly true though ..it's all relative tbh. I've just changed from an 09MY HSE to a 13MY HSE and the equity in the old one was huge so I'm paying no more now than I was 4 years ago 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

We all do stuff in our own ways tbh. Whatever model you buy they are all great. despite the views of certain people.
