Hi all,
I will have a crack at changing my alternator over tomorrow thanks to the guide from this great site, but my worry is that once i will hopefully hooked up the new alternator and jump start the existing battery it may drain or damage the new alternator then causing the battery it to become flat again. I'M NOT SURE. Those bloody varta batteries are $400 over here in WA, try and avoid replacing the battery if I can. The battery has been flat for 2 days.
Can anyone clarify what i should avoid or would i be sweet charging and continue using the existing battery with the new alternator?
Cheers

Best thing that can happen for the battery is to be charged on a smart charger, calcium batteries will not come back up to full charge from flat by alternator alone. A smart charger will try to recondition the plates. If you jump started it and left jump leads on for a while do not think that should hurt alternator but not best option for battery.

I use a Ctek charger if I leave the D3 for more a week. Works extremely well. Also works well on resurecting flat (but not damaged) batteries. 06 TDV6 SE with many LR and after-market extras. Used only on weekends and trips out west.
