Diesel additives

Hi guys, I gave a 2007 D3 SE v6.
Are fuel additives worth while? If so which one is best?
Looking for a smoother drive and better MPH.
I currently use Tesco fuel as its closest, it it worth going elsewhere to fill up?

I love my disco!!

In the states a fair few vw and other forums report adding a few litres of good BioD per tank which helps their mpg and clans crud out Smile

Others on here will say add 2 stroke as well.

Add 2 stroke FB or FC 100ml per 20 litres of diesel. Plenty of info on the forum about it.

I use Tesco (as it's closest) and a dose of 2 stroke oil.

I have used other fuels (BP/Shell mainly) and have never seen better MPG or smoother running Whistle

I am not at all sure about adding bio diesel.

ISTR LR recommend no more than 5% bio diesel, and the fuel you buy from the pumps may be at that level or higher already.

I would stick with Mineral JASO FC at 1:200 ratio or thereabouts, so 425 ml for a full tank I. I tend to work on 500 ml for a full tank & pro ratia.

I concur with comments about Shell - I very rarely use anything else.

I feel the motor goes better when I fill up on shell (fairly rare ) as they are 5 - 10p a litre more.

Maybe a placebo but it fills quicker after a while.

That's strange.

I didn't see any mention of adding 2so in a land rover manual Wink

2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 S Manual Adriatic BlueDiscovery 3

only ever had 1 deisel that did not like supermarket fuel and that was my ducato van i put around 80000 miles on it from new and would return about 80 miles less to a tank on supermarket stuff and sound a lot noisier deisel knock
with the disco cant tell the difference but do find a shot of 2so quietens it a bit
only other time i use addative is at fuel filter change when i fill the filter with injector cleaner this gives an innitial neat dose that gets watered down as it returns to tank as excess fuel but when i am sure it is running ok and all the air is out i switch it off and leave it this soak period with neat injector cleaner gets maximum cleaning benifits if the cleaner does any thing that is

Bet it also didn't say anything about FBH timers, or remaps, or retro-fitting parts Rolling Eyes

Point proven I think.

Just because the manual says no to it doesn't mean the world will end now Wink

Just as the manual says you shouldn't fit non LR kit or do any tuning to the vehicle or wade over 700mm deep in water, plenty on here have found you can have those parts of the cake an way it with no ill effects. Good BioD is the same Smile

I know at least 2 on here who run it, and a few in the ff forum that have as well with no problems attributable to the BioD. Heck you all run it now in a very weak mix anyway Smile
