If it was me i'd be looking or binding brakes or EPB. 22 at 70mph is about right if a caliper is binding. Been there, done that.

maybe a sticky brake caliper if you have no other running issues i suspect one of mine has started to bind a bit as fuel use has increased a bit last few weeks still went to brid and got over 30 mpg last sunday but would have expected more
check for a hot wheel just after stopping looking for 1 slightly hotter than the other my front passenger was hot on the 2 occasions i checked so this weeks fiddling is going to be looking at that Club original turbo
161k and counting
general AT's, oval timer, blanked egr's, silicone intercooler hose's

Did you reset the mpg to get it up to 22, or is 22 still the average with all your town runs ? If that was purely on the motorway it's very low, I would expect 30 - 32 in mine (manual)

For an auto with all working as it should I'd expect 27 - 28 at 70mph actual so trip comp could say anything from 29mpg to 33mpg.

Yesterday I broke my MPG record after 7 years of ownership, work it out for yourself, Nottingham-Chorley, Lancs with 3 Labradors, milage = 244 rtn, I had £45 diesel at Morrisons at £1.41.9ltr, range gauge reading at start 45 miles, reading on getting home 66 miles = by my calculations 34.97 MPG this includes 4 miles of green lane at Chorley and 70+ mph whenever possible. I didn't drive with economy in mind but I had to do these calculations because I was amazed that I did not have to stop for more fuel and with a HSE auto and General AT tyres.
Strange thing is trip computer said 23.7 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I find trip computer is totally unreliable. You have to work it out yourself IMO. My D3 has returned poor mpg lately (under 21 actual for local trips). Computer says anything from 23 to 27. I've found it's more accurate in summer when I get at least 24 mpg actual for same use.

£60 for 300 miles is good going in a D3 (32.76 mpg I reckon). If you haven't reset computer before the trip then it is normal that you have only increased from 18 -19 mpg to 22 mpg. Nothing to worry about IMO.

^^ as above it will take a lot of 70mph trips to take your average back up. If your wheels aren't hot probably not an issue.

from a bit....to a lot
lowest I get nowadys is 24 (real mpg) if on longer trips get around 30 maybe 32
....you ought to try when cruising with CControl putting your transmission into sport (which will be "5th") flick the gearshift forwards to "6th"...mine always give more MPG like this.
check your tyre pressures
try using some Millers additive to give you engine a treat
check your air filter BREXIT - done properly.

And thats good going for a D3!! You sure 2 injectors didn't just switch off FFRR Owner, very nearly became a D3 owner

The trip in mine does it's own seems it like reading round 22-24 mpg regardless of driving conditions.

I have just done a very happy 30 mpg
dash readings
60 Average MPH
50 TRIP
30 MPG
405 Range left
this was a worm start with clock reset
what's different?
1) correct tyre pressure
2) 4 wheel alignment done (both front and rear wheel were all out)
3) Red ex ( as recommended by this forum members )
prior to this i was struggling to get 27 mpg 2005 D3 SE Auto
