Just had Mar'10 D4 MOT'd at LR Authorised Service Centre. All fine but was verbally advised that the front and rear brake pads were 80-85% worn and should be replaced. However nothing was written on the invoice/MOT certificate about this.
The car has only done 26.5k miles. Given the size and weight of the D4 I am happy to be conservative when dealing with the brakes but is this level of wear reasonable and, if so, given we are currently doing c500-750 miles a month how soon should we changing the pads? Occasionally if the car hasn't been used for a few days the brakes do seem to be briefly 'stuck' when pulling away for first time.
BTW the LR Service Centre 'offered' to change both sets and pads for £517 inc VAT and labour.
Have only just joined this site and have found it incredibly useful. Any and all thoughts much appreciated! Many thanks.

Hi Ajab, welcome to the forum.
If you do a search on "Bodsys brake bible" that will show you how to do them yourself. Cost you way less than £517!!!  My17 Volvo XC90 Inscription

Also, have you had a look at the pads yourself. Quite easy to see through the wheel. Should get a good idea from there fella. Where in the UK are you? If you don't fancy the job yourself, someone on here will be able to recommend an independant that has a good reputation and won't rip you off. My17 Volvo XC90 Inscription

Many thanks for this feedback. I thought £517 seemed way too much. However in the interests of the safety of the family I'm also happy to leave this in the hands of someone who knows rather more about what they are doing!
Any recommendations for good independents in/around North London much appreciated.
