additional exhaust pipe behind the water cooler???

...sorry to bother but does anybody knows about something like an additional exhaust pipe in front of the D3?
This weekend I had to leave mine for a short spell. I didn't kill the engine.
Heading again for the vehicle I noticed (looking 'up' from the lower gateway) a small pipe running down in front of the engine compartment ...steaming???[/i]
It was early in the morning, cold and I had just started the motor after a long night (no overheating possible)!
Cheers!

Hi Gi,

No need to worry about this, its just the exhaust pipe for the fuel burning heater. The heater will come on at temperatures below 5 degrees C until the engine has warmed up. Do a search for FBH and you will find a lot more information about this.

Many thanks to both of you for your fast and precise response!

That explains (1) the noise after short movements, (2) the smell of carbon opening the door after start-up and (3) the 'smoke signs' given at low temp!

... thinking about meeting family and friends immediately this evening to tell them about what a great car I've got and what a fantastic forum I've joined!

Drive carefully!
