James Edwards LR in Chester
Absolutely ZERO marks to James Edwards LR in Chester. Just picked up my Disco after having a new screen fitted when their subbies destroyed the heater contacts fitting my phone kit Upon collecting, I had mud all over the passenger seat, and cr@p all around the CREAM roof lining and front roof supports There were bits of sealant all over the place, and for some reason, mine was the only car in the compound to miss out on the complimentary wash To top it all off, they simply 'forgot' to check two other items I asked them to sort under warranty, and reported that the third (switching off come-home lights) item couldn't be done because 'even LR don't know how to do it'!!! They finished off by telling me that my poor fuel consumption was no fault of the LR - it was a 'Characteristic' of the car I have not commented directly on James Edwards LR to date as I worry about posting slanderous stuff, but since this is all true (and much more) then it's fact, not slander. Unfortunately they're all we have around here. I'm still chuffed to bits with the Disco though!'

We have the same trouble with James Edwards.
Try Conway Land Rover? is 30 odd miles further but its a day our in LLandudno or Bets-y-Coed.
Trouble with cutting out they say nothing is wrong with it.
First service we asked for a disco courtsy car we wait 5 weeks, when we get there give us a Freelander which we rejected - wait another week for a Disco.
Then takes 4 days for them to service it, the Auto HSE seams faster than ours, they say thay are all different, and the 23-25 MPG is normal.

Dealer criticism is appropriate where substantiated. Perhaps you'd share your bad experience of this dealer with others?

Purchased a New Range Rover (when P38 was current). Paid nearly £50k for it. Sold as a "Vogue Spec" but diesel (you may remember the limited edition they did to try the model before the dHSE) Turned out JE has mis-sold it and some of the omissions could not be retro fitted. For example, one omission was ETC and to satisfy me that I was not disadvantaged the dealer offered a LR experience day to try both vehicles - only vehicle available was in a bloody manual and mine was auto.
Same experience as others here WEEKS and WEEKS to get the car booked in. When the car went in it came out with many/most of the jobs not done.
Guy on service desk (not service manger) as rude as hell. He should not be in a customer facing role.
The car: Brakes failed first week, two water hoses burst first six months etc etc etc and so service manager arranged with LR to extend the warranty (mine was purchased 10 days before they went from offering 1 year to 3 year as standard). Dealer principal intervened to object!! He got mixed up with the compensation given because they had mis-sold the vehicle in the first place. Service desk guy then smiled and said - actually you have no warranty whatsoever - you have exceeded the service interval (ONLY BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T FIT the bl!!!dy thing IN FOR FOUR WEEKS!)
I could go on - needless to say, I am a forgiving sort of guy and decided to give them another go. Tried to demonstrate a car - it wouldn't start, flat battery on a £40k car on the forecourt. Sales guy then said "it's well specced up this one - best Vogue we've got" oh I asked, what is on it that is not standard? - "nothing" he confessed.
Oh, and you can't park.
To date - I have not heard anyone say anything good about them.
The other comments here didn't surprise me.
Is that enough?

...but why are you hiding in a SECRET location matey ?
As it sounds like you've had pain with them... move on and use another dealer. Easy.
Look around the forum... there are plenty good ones to choose from.

So who else are near by to get your D3 from ? Or why not buy from elsewhere and have it serviced close by ?

I think Lakeland Landrover are an interesting dealership - I think they look after customers (I am told).
There is a really decent sales guy at Stratstone Bury - don't know anything else about the dealership though.
Williams Manchester - Impressed me recently.

I’m curious Disco why do you want a Discovery3. There must be some key drivers.
Have you driven one yet?
Do you want manual / diesel?
New or Used?
Specification Base S SE HSE or dare I say Metropolis ?
Yes this site is the font of all things Discovery3 and there is a wealth of knowledge, if you ask the right questions

Simon - will do, but let me get my questions together. Seems the last thread I started ended in a mess!
Ken - In answer to your questions:
I want a Disco because (I think) it's a better car than the RR. Although the new V8 diesel and terrain response on the RR are an attraction.
Not a Metropolis - as the chrome is not my flavour and I don't have kids for the DVD, which for me makes it a HSE.
New probably, as late used and new seem to be the same price. I would be scared to buy a two year old one because of the early problems
Diesel - Auto.
Silver and black interior.

Eek -I am currently looking to buy a Mar 06 Disco 3 from this dealership. Would you recommend that I look elsewhere?
I will not be using them for servicing as I am based in London - just trying to find best car that I can?
