1st breakdown - brakes binding...
Just had to call LRA out. I thought I had a flat on the motorway today - steering shaking etc. but when I stopped to investigate, nothing was amiss. Carried on and all seemed normal.
Came off the motorway, and it felt like the brakes were binding, got home and they were noticeably hot on all 4 wheels, with smoke and burning smell.
LRA arrived within 20 minutes, and used a laser temp guage and all 4 disks were still at 60 degrees, which compared to 35 on his own car.
He reckons its the brake light switch, which can stick and hold the brakes on slightly, he's seen it before. He says he could have replaced there and then, but felt that the disks are all overheated and need replacing. So, its now in Guy Salmon, and I am awaiting the replacement. Jag XF on its way apparently 8)

Gareth
I had exactly the same on my old D3 I changed the brake light switch but it didn't cure it
Then it cured itself fore a while !!
Until I was trading it in and all brakes locked on on the M6 while I was swapping it in
Had to engage low box to shift it off the motorway
Had to cool down the discs with snow off the side of the road all the way to the LR dealership
Never did find out what the problem was but the sales guy reckoned he had seen it before and said it was an ABS fault !!
Would be interested to find out the cause of yours though . Keep us posted
Cheers

Yours sounds a bit more extreme than mine. All I felt was a slight dragging, to the extent that at a standstill, in D with foot off the brake, and parking brake off, it would only just creep forward, and the brakes were ultra sensitive when applied.
I would have stopped at the side of the road and called them to recover me, but was only 2 miles from home, and ready for my dinner! so decided to drive slowly. It still made the discs go blue and the pads smoke though!

So do I
I like Jags, but not enough to wish my D4 anymore breakdowns. I only got it back on Friday after it finally got all the missing black bits fitted.
She looks stunning, but no good in the garage broken. On the plus side, I should get a new set of discs and pads, which extends the eventual cost by a couple of thousand miles.

Gareth that's how mine started albeit mine was a manual at the time, but gradually got worse until it was un driveable changed all discs and pads and the brake light switch and even replaced the brake light bulbs just in case !
Left it over a weekend and didn't use it, come to use it before trade in day and all was well
Took it all the way up to the Lakes and happened again 40 miles from the dealers !! Now confused but at the time trading for my new D4 so didn't really give a
That's when I mentioned it to the sales guy ! and he mentioned the ABS !!
But don't know if it was that ! But like I said would like to know what the outcome is on yours ?
Hope all goes well at GS and you get your baby back soon !! MY18 D5 HSE LUX😎

GS are sure its the brake switch, and will be fitting a new one tomorrow. In the meantime, the Jag XF is OK. I find the seat a bit hard, and the visibility is poor, but boy does it go

Well, that's a bit of a bummer
Don't really think it would be the brake light switch.
If the switch is sticking on it thinks the vehicle is braking and won't supply fuel as the system doesn't allow you to brake and accelerate at the same time.
But also, I cannt see how a faulty electrical switch would apply the brakes
Hope it all gets sorted anyway ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

They explained to me that when a new switch is fitted, it calibrates on initial use. If the pedal was not fully up as the switch was fitted, it can actually hold the pedal down a bit, enough to slightly keep the brakes applied. As the heat builds the discs expand and the brakes bind more, and get even hotter.
I did question this, but the land rover assistance chap initially said this, then the technician who is fixing my car said the same, so maybe its a known issue?
Anyway, if it fixes it, I will be happy.

Happened to me on the way to the airport, fully loaded, at 4am! The discs were actually glowing red. Had to struggle to the dealers car park (about 5 miles) having called a taxi, or our holiday would have been missed.
Was told it was a servo problem. All brake discs and pads replaced under warranty.Paul

It seems to get the blame for an awful lot, they changed it for my stuttering problem, didn't fix it and also for the hestitation, didn't affect that either! Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Gareth, I had exact same when in Scotland last time and was resolved by fitting a replacement brakeswitch, was was the first thing the techies said it would probably be
