COST OF OIL SUPPLYED BY DEALER |
|
Have you checked the price charged for Mobil One 0W/40 Synthetic oil supplyed by your dealer
My dealer charges a wopping $117.33 for 6.5 litres That is $18.05 per litre
I purchase Mobil One 0W/40 at full retail from Mobil at $246.50 for 20 litre drum. that is$12.32 / litre
I assume the dealer buys the oil at wholesale in large quantities and would get a far better price than me.
So I think I am being overcharged by $5.73 a litre , that is $37.25 price gouging per service
Labour is charged out seperatly so not part of oil price.
What is your experience on this and what do you think
I will be bringing this matter up at my next service shortly

I thought the spec is 5W30 as you see on the oil cap on the TDV6. Mobil 1 is expensive stuff.
I run Castrol Edge 5W30 between dealer oil changes and the cost for 5lt at K-Mart, Repco or Autobarn is around $45-$49.
If your Dealer allows it, supply your own oil. I've done this in the past for other makes of car and the Dealer had no problem with that as long as the oil was the recommended spec. I don't need to do this while my D3 is under warranty since the first 3 years of service was covered under LRA's corporate program but certainly would do it if they charge rediculous amounts for oil.

My dealer started using Castrol in my D3 but changed to Mobil1 mid last year. Now have changed back to Castrol (TXT Softec). I gather that LRA might have had an influence on the oil that goes into the Land Rovers for my dealer.
Last change at 24 000km cost $112.20 (incl GST) for the oil, $78.42 for the pollen filter and $31.34 for the oil filter.
The price of oil is very much affected by the fluctuations in woild oil prices.

Rob I had a 36k service done in late Jan and I was charged and paid $189.00 for "High Perf Oil MBL1 0/40". I was given some lame brained excuse for the high price but it was too late then and I was committed. I think we may go to the same stealer. May have to travel down the mountain for future services

I had my 24k service done on Wednesday
i supplied my service man with the oil (castrol edge = $50) and filter
Probably only coincidence but since changing to the castrol edge
ive done 700km and for the first time in ages i got 25.5 mpg
Anyone else noticed this or is it coincidence

My dealer uses Castrol Magnatec which cost me $55 at the last service. I checked the Castrol website and it's what they recommend for the TDV6 so I suppose it's OK. Have a nice day!

Just had 24,000km service done at an independent Lard Rover Service centre. They used Penrite HPR 5 Diesel and the cost was $51.02 inc GST.

I supplied my own oil for the only service so far and the dealer was quite happy about it. Look at it in a bigger picture. people off by overchargeing them for oil and refusing to allow them to supply their own is not conducive to makeing said customer want to deal with you when it is time for the replacement vehicle.
