Discovery 4 XS - Looking and what should I be looking for ?

I have decided that rather than buy a late 09/59 D3 HSE I could (for a few extra beer tokens) go for a D4 XS, lower spec maybe but all the posts on here show the drive as a vast improvement...so if I go with an XS, what kind of spec can I expect...probably looking at a 10 plate, maybe slightly newer....not too much of a gadget person Embarassed but being realistic I'd like ipod, nav, reverse camera, phone connect and leather....

Owners of XS' welcome to feedback please Bow down
D4 HSE....Probably, but not quite decided yet.

On our 2nd D4 XS and you won't regret it, unless someone corrects me you will get everything on your list apart from the rear camera, although many have it added as an option on build, can be added afterwards by those in the know Thumbs Up

I've had an XS since new for 3 years now and it's been fantastic. I would have ordered another one but by the time I add on the 'essential' options (for me) it gets too close to an HSE price. And the HSE should always be worth more come that time.

My options are:

Metallic paint
Xenons
Privacy
Rear camera (I do a lot of towing)
Sunroofs
Full size spare

So in a roundabout way I can think about a D4 XS and then drop Wiggs a pm to work some electro magic to sort me a rear camera (cant be worse than wifey at reversing me over a towball)....

And the obvious question.....is it worth a remap or is 245 and c600Nm sufficient 8)

I have plenty of time and am in no rush so just assessing the options....
D4 HSE....Probably, but not quite decided yet.

Had D3 for 6 years and have had D4 XS for 2 years, has most of the toys you want as standard. This is a very fast car without the re-map, try it on the motorway and you will see! Best car I have driven.

I have had 2 D3's, and now in a D4 SDV6 at it fooking flies compared to the 3. No remap needed.

if going for the XS try and get one with the optional seat arm rest pack.

the only thing I miss from my HSE is the dipping rear view mirrors which you can get on an XS - the rest I havnt missed at all, and with the money we saved in finance charges we bought a Freelander Thumbs Up

Probably in the minority here, I went from an 06 HSE which I had very happily for a few years to an 11 plate XS. Was very disappointed with the comfort of the XS seats. So much so that with my wife in strong agreement we took a small hit and upgraded to a 2012 HSE after less than a year of ownership (never changed a car that quickly in my forty odd years of driving). Accept that seat comfort is a pretty subjective thing, but on long journeys it matters so make sure the XS really suits you. Not sure why they fit sunroofs in hse, never found the need to open it, but the brighter electric candles on the front can be a benefit. As already stated the D4 has got so much more go about it than the D3, even if the roadholding seems to be achieved by stiffening the suspension so its a bit harsher on rough roads.

I would agree with the seats - sort of !

I found the stiching down the back of the seat stuck into my skinny back bone and it became uncomfortable. However, I don't notice it any more. that may be because the leather has softened.

Glad your seats settled down Dunc, didn't seem as though ours were going to give in - not just stitching but driver's seat felt as though there was a board under the leather towards the back so became painful to sit on after a hundred miles or so. The hse seats are definitely very different and we find them far more comfortable - wife has had a couple of new hips and a knee in the last couple of years, so is even more sensitive than I am. The backs of the hse seats fit and support both of us very well, although I can imagine for different size folk that would not always be the case. Not really bothered about the electrickery, although it may help when the car goes in for service and the guy test drivng decides to adjust to suit his comfort rather than mine! Looking forward to a trip to Dresden (Germany) in a couple of weeks which should really test the comfort.

Some great comments and feedback here....so what does the HSE give me over the XS....

Hadn't thought of lighting but is HSE better ??

Sunroof - not bothered.

Seating.....sounds a problem maybe ?

Appreciate the feedback Thumbs Up
