Tow bar bike carrier - Thule velocompact 927
Some info and pictures for anyone considering one and wondering on fit and function for a discovery
Bought just before Christmas from Halfords - fit is quite tight on the tow ball and had to remove the additional plastic shroud to fit but once in is solid as a rock 👍
The tilt function allows the boot to open and tail gate drop - about 5 mm too close for the bottom tailgate to go fully down and have weight on it but allows full access for dog etc
Now thinking about tow rack bags to use when needing extra luggage!

Turns out the black wheel carriers are adjustable so with a slight shove in the bottom tailgate comes down and can be crawled over when tilted 👍

I like it, been considering one of these wasn’t sure how practical they were, wondered if something for the roof rack would be better but this looks good

Great, thanks for the review and photo's.
I'm currently stuck with a MaxxRack for when towing the caravan but its a pain in the when travelling abroad with the dog and stuff in the boot.
2 straps to undo and bundle on the roof, then squeeze behind a mucky car and bikes to undo the nut, and lower the bikes to floor.
Great product and will keep it for towing - but I'll look out for a thule rack now I know it clears the tailgates.
Sandy.

+ 1 for a good fit on the removable tow bar! Give the clamping nut a good tighten and its nice and solid. On a long trip we pull over every so often to check all is well with cycle rack and roof box etc

Dredging up a thread here but has anyone fitted one of these to a fixed ball? Preferably a Tow Trust TL1 ball.
Hoping there is enough room as every other option I seem to want is unavailable.

Lard's images show it on a fixed tow bar. Looks like an extended tow ball for an Al-Ko hitch.Richard

oh is it?
I saw the green knob on the side and assumed it was a LR removable.

I think you can just see one of the stays to the left.
The LR fixed tow bar still has the green knob. Richard

I’ve got a genuine fixed and as Lard says, can’t fit without removing a plastic cover.
I think I need to get a ball with an extended neck, the Thule instructions state the length of the ball and neck should be at least 73mm iirc
