Tow bar electrics (namingly the socket) |
|
Hi all,
I have the 13 pin electrics on my OE towbar.
Today inexplicably, I hooked up and ran through the preflight checks on the trailer and the lights, indicators and everything really were not behaving.
I unplugged and noticed the "little pluggy" (for want of a better description) pins in the socket under the flap were all over the place! Some are pushed in, some are mashed, some look ok.
I have no idea how it happened but it seems I have cocked up the plug on the car. It is under warranty but as I appear to have been the culprit I'd like to fix it.....
Does anyone know if just the socket is available? The entire electrics with cabling are expensive... I just want to replace the socket on the car...
Any help gratefully received as I can't tow at present.
A mod a week until I have nothing to improve or add.

Available from Screwfix if you get stuck (or any good car spares place)...
Search "Maypole MP129 13 pin socket" just take a photo of the back of your current socket and swap the wires one at a time... I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

As above very simple to replace you can buy them at any decent trailer suppliers or indeed Screwfix etc you should get change from a tenner . Its relatively easy to mess them up as the pins need to be correctly lined up before turning.

Thank you Nige and pops.
I shall pick one up from screwfix today.
Seems the Maypole one looks way better than oem as each plug is held fast by the plastic individual sleeves around them. The Land Rover one I have is just metal sleeves all exposed and now mangled by ham fisted ageing idiot.
Many thanks again gents. A mod a week until I have nothing to improve or add.

Thats the biggest turn off with 13pin its to easy to not have everything lined up correctly if the locking collar is rotated. You can get a tool to check the alignment before you attach but generally make sure the locking collar is fully in the removal posiution before trying to put it in .
