Tow car problems

Just called at a local campsite to visit family in the D3, A chap with anotherone came over, he'd just come off the A1 lost power then it cut out on him 3 times, engine light had come on as well. From what he was saying I said it sounded like an EGR fault or possibly a turbo fault but it really needs plugging in and fault codes reading. Are there any other possibilites, he said nothing about any black smoke when he lost power..

The chap had L/R asistance out and was told it was a blocked air filter ?? and that the engine needed 5 adjustments unless he misheard and the fault was an air flow meter problem which can cause a loss of power but never know one make an engine cut out !!
