OFF ROAD TOWBAR
I have been meaning to post on my modified plough bar but have been a bit crook of late. I tow an off road van & the plough as supplied was U/S. I cut the ZED off below the fitting to the chassis and the welded it back on so the 50MM square now faced aft. Gained 115 MM in height. The plough is made of cast steel so welds ok with the right electrodes. Have towed the van 15000 Km around N.Q. & the N.T. without problems.

Pics of my towbar posted in my galery , had some dificulty geting them there , which was just me, not good with this technology.

A very neat solution,Rob, but my blacksmithing heritage leans towards Swampy's chop and weld job. It has the advantage that it uses the 50mm. square receiver for interchangeable tow tongues, although you could also do that with Rob's idea.

Any risk of Warranty and Insurance problems pales into insignificance when compared to the risk you took buying a Land Rover in the first place

Basically warrenty is not my issue, without being able to tow off road the
D3 is about as usefull as tits on a bull!
All previous Discos had good tow bars and when enquireing before purchase
I was told it had a standard Haman Reese style tow bar. You can emagine
the disapointment at seing what was supplyed.
So no choice in this department.
We do all sorts of mods front and back etc. and dealers say nothing, so I
am not worried.
V.smart! I imagine there will be a fair number of people who'd like the same done to their car. I hope that the LR bods who access this site take note and consider what they might change for the D4 or the 2010 facelift.Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

At the weekend I gave the new tow bar a good work out.
16 foot trailer, reasonably loaded. some rough roads and I am very
pleased with it.
With 20/20 hindsight there is nothing I would change

Hi All. With Ref to this Towbar issue. I believe that under the Australian Act, all Towbars must come under a Australian law, which means all attachments to the vechiles must be approved and have the approval number. and if not an engineer must take responsibilty if home made. I believe its a $20000.00 fine throught out Aust if caught.
