Towing & Intensity Lights

Someone on the forum was speaking about their rear intensity lights staying on when towing. Mine do and it appears that LR have not sorted the problem out, where have I heard that before. Traditionally when the lights of a trailer are connected the cars rear intensity lights cut off to stop dazzle in your reaer view mirror. Traditionally a tiny switch in the trailer socket (black one) cut the cars lights, but due to the sophistication of the D3 they have not over come that little defect as the switch cannot be fitted to a D3. On towing off road the lighting should also stop the car rising in 'rock crawl', it does not.

It was me, and yes it is a bit basic. If it is foggy, and I am towing my caravan, the high intensity rear lamps reflect off the front of the caravan and are particularly dazzling in the mirrors. A simple relay would solve this.

The suspension raising, I did not try this one.

Thanks Gareth, I may end up with Duck Tape over the lenses. As you say they are blinding, especially on a white background of a trailer. Still I suppose good old LR forgot that the Disco3 could tow and quite well at that.

I also can't remember the last time I actually experienced fog in summer when I am most likely to be towing the caravan! so I will not be getting hot under the collar about it.

Are you talking about the rear fog lights? If so only pull the light switch out one stop not 2, this switches on the front fog lights only (from memory)

The rear intense fog lamps which are required in visibility less than 50 metres. We work in Russia and drive there so we do need the lamps, especially in Germany and Austria when driving through with the trailers, where a hefty fine is given if not used.

Yes Pelyma, but there are fog lamps on the rear of the caravan, and If I were to want to use them, I would be dazzled by the cars.

How can LandRover miss such a basic thing in a vehicle that is designed for towing? Wink Some of the problems with the D3 are really getting well beyond a joke. Sad

I know, but it still feels very good to drive. I was driving home from work today, and got stopped at a school crossing patrol. A few mums and kids walked across the road in front of me, one kid spied my Disco, and stared, mouth open, he was awestuck! - then he walked straight into the kerb at the side of the road and went flat on his face - poor lad Laughing
