Towing Issues

Hi Guys,

So I have had my D3 for 5 years now. In that time not a week has gone by with out towing something. However recently the car was in a RTA and during the repairs I had the vehicle face lifted to look like a D4. Pictures will follow.

Anyway yesterday evening for the first time since I got the D3 back I hooked up the trailer. Low and behold the indicators flash like strobes as soon as the 7 pin was connected. Not as bright as the indicators but still pretty bright. There appears to be a sequence to the flashing - it bounces from side to side.

Thing is I have never seen it do this before. I know the garage had to reset a load of codes on the ECU but could this possibly be something LR have designed? Or is it a quirky issue caused perhaps by the resistors installed to the LED rear Lights.

I have tried removing all the towbar light fuses one at a time and it hasnt stopped. Also the sequence is different when the ignition is on. When I lock the car the sequence it like the hazards are on. It last 2 minutes and then turns off?

PLEASE HELP - BEFORE I GO MAD

Try putting the original D3 rear lights back in if that cures it my guess would be the resistors for the D4 rear lights.

Hi

This face lift you had done, I presume you mean Censored lift with fancy D4 rear lights with the LED's ?
If this is the case, then I am sure that something else is needed somewhere to make it all work.

I haven't got a clue what is required but I'm sure someone will be along later who does know what you need.

So, BUMP, back up the top Thumbs Up

Edit. As Russell says, Gizmo's needed Thumbs Up

D3's won't run LED lights (which are fitted to D4's) without some form of additional load. Do a search on here for pulse shunt box or LED lights.

Cheers,

D3 will run rear led lights no problem and visually flash at the same rate as the halogen units they just require ballast resistors to slow down the dash instrument panel if you cannot live with an increase in the instrument light flashing and the increased sound that goes with it .....
