@ DRL - OK see what you mean. You must have the towing mirror further out than me, as when I tried this the end of the bar touched the door. I think I'll stick with mine mounted on the top.

I first saw the mirrors fitted on the underside of the wing mirror on a video of the Practical Caravan 2015 tow car of the year awards and there is no doubt in my mind that the towing mirror feels more secure in this position than on top.
However I do know that the mirror is probably more likely to do greater damage in this position if it gets hit by a passing vehicle. I have towed for over forty years and it was the first time that it had happened to me.
I just don't feel confident that the towing mirror is secure when attached to the top of the wing mirror. I find the the plastic casing visibly deforms when the clamps are tightened and if I were to tighten them any more I am concerned that the wing mirror outer casing would crack.
