Towing mirrors help.
Morning all.
I haven't had to use/get towing mirrors, as both the Freel2 and the D4 always gave really good views down the side, as per gov guidelines.
Changing the tin tent this coming Friday. It is one of the new 8ft wide breed. I think I am going to need towing mirrors.
Can anyone suggest some reasonable priced mirrors that fit the D4 well? Had a couple of old ones in the garage, but they didn't really fit over the current mirrors, and the straps had perished.

Milenco Grand Aero, I think the latest version is 3. Rock solid on a D3, D4 and Porsche Cayenne. I wouldn't tow any caravan without them as they give you so much better vision. DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

Yes, Milenco Grand Aeros (either flat or convex - your choice), and for an eight feet wide caravan you will need the extended arms (available separately) to have the required view.

as above - I found them really good, however I swapped the mountings over so they attached to the bottom of the mirror not the top to avoid marking the painted surface on the top of my mirrors.Must stop buying shiny toys....

Yep, milencos with the extended arms are the ones you want.. On the d4 with auto folding mirrors if you put them on the bottom they hit the door when the mirrors fold in, so you need to fit them to the top of mirrors..

Hi,
not sure when it became Law but here is the legal requirement, I thought you had to have at least 1 mirror but it seems 2 are probably needed
There is a legal requirement for you to have mirrors that allow you to see clearly an area that is 4 metres wide from the side of your caravan at a distance 20 metres behind the driver. A caravan is significantly wider than a car even a large 4x4 and you simply can't comply with the law unless you fit towing mirrors.

I've got Maypole aero towing mirrors.
Very similar to Milenco, but cheaper ...... and I can't fault the quality.
The mirrors also have an additional rubber strap which just gives that added confidence in securing.

I agree with the ‘Milencos’, used them on both D4 and my Volvo. Really steady. Mine is also 8’ wide and not had any problems

The caravan was marginally narrower than the D4, so I was ok. Should have had them on the Freel2 though.

If you've tried them, I Hope you found that the Milencos perform satisfactorily. I've had a pair for some years and highly recommend them.Visitor from FFRR

If you have the later more rounded style mirrors on your D4 get the Milenco LR pads for the mirror fittings. Also worth getting and old push bike inner tube, cut a 1cm chunk out and fitting to the fixed part of the mirror bracket. Not the part with the pad on it, it helps with the rounded shape of your D4 mirrors.MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Milenco….don't bother with the "wedge" Discovery specific pads, just slide some bicycle inner tube pieces onto the fixed part of the clamp. Great grip and no marks left behind.
