Tranny disengages when I come to a stop

Can anyone give advice as to why at times, when in drive, and coming to a stop the 'D' on the instrument panel readout indicating that my LR3 is in drive disappears and I my tranny won't engage? The only way I've been able to get it going again is to switch over to command shift and then back to automatic once I'm moving to correct it. Its been happening on and off for the past couple of weeks but yesterday it wouldn't even recognized command shift. Any advice or suggestions would be a tremendous help. Confused Question

I apologize if this is a stupid question but what exactly is the gear lever pivot and is it located within the transmission control gear shift selector? Is this something I can fix myself or is a specialist needed? The dealers here are constantly finding a reason for you to spend a grand or more per visit. Can this be avoided?

Seek and you shall find. Thanks for the heads up on the problem I found the step by step link at

Thanks MikeO for the insight and Disco_Mikey for how to. Thumbs Up

Might be worth a quick spray first to see if that improves things. Very easy to do - just get access via the side of the undertray. Then you can decide if you need / want to replace?

Yes give the linkage a spray with something like WD40, i bought the bits to replace the Pivot etc, in fact all the bits are still in my glove box awaiting fitting Cost about £20ish , But a spray of WD40 seems to have cured it for the time being i will wait until it stops raining and its a bit warmer and then change it so should be some time in August Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Thanks for the tip. I just got done spraying it with WD40. I tried moving it through the gears a few times and going back and forth in the driveway to work it through the pivot bolt. Its getting dark now the test will be tomorrow morning when I head out on my 30 mile trek to work. before I leave, maybe I'll hit it one more time for good measure. I'll let you know how it works out. thanks

***One more thing...Would that be the same reason why the LR3 shuts off completely, at times, when I put it in reverse and/or coming to a stop...or that issue something else altogether?

Well its been two days and no more issues thus far. Now as long as this fix lasts until the weather breaks, I'll be able to replace the parts myself. Thanks again for all of your help and advice

Its worth a fingers worth of gease on the linkage as wd40 wont last long as its not a very good lube.
