Transmission rate change unavailable |
|
Hmmm,
After several transmission faults that have resolved themselves overnight, the D3 failed to start yesterday due to low battery. Once jump started everything was fine apart from the following on screen error "Transmission Rate Change Unavailable". This has obviously disabled all special programs too.
Does this sound serious or a possible sensor failure?

A battery on the way out can cause lots of strange faults. New battery perhaps?

Indeed, I think you could be right.
Everything back to normal this morning, all faults have gone.
Anyone know what the best replacement is for a D3?

I've had the old Transmission Range change unavailable message several times in early life; mainly due to a heavily depleted battery. During the start up self test, the tranmission apparently cycles from high to low to high, so it knows exactly where it is. This takes a fair bit of power and can fail on a low charge.
As you have to drive a long long way to really get the battery up to full charge, I treated myself to a CTEK charger (not all chargers can handle the calcium batteries that LR use), and gave it an overnight workout. It almost completely got rid of the error but it still cropped up occasionaly.
10forcash recommended that I cycle the transmission from high-low and back at least six times in a row (engine running) so that it can calibrate itself successfully. This made the issue go away completely. Dr. Ian Malcolm:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
Transgenic tomato anyone?
