Trickle charge via cigarette lighter socket?

Is it possible to charger a D4 battery using a Ctek charger through the cigarette lighter socket?

I know the socket does not stay live for long after the ignition is turned off, but on my other car (Porsche) although the socket normally switches off, it stays live as long as there is a charging current, specifically so that you can use the socket for battery maintainance.
Is this the same on Disco 4

You could easily put a jumper wire in place of the relay to make one set of sockets live. Simples, well once I find a pic. Thumbs Up

Better still fit a Connect Eyelet to the battery & body earth under the bonnet, lots of threads here about this.

I have done this on my D4, and for both batteries on my SL350. I don't bother with the Stop/Start on the D4, as I'm happy for it to be flat Whistle

Sorry M3DPO - I wasn't responding to you....

Charging through the tow socket is an excellent idea if you have one.

Never been a fan of charging a battery back through a fuse, plus, my next door neighbour was sold a 3 or 5amp Ctek for his 911, labelled up as a PORSCHE charger and with a cigarette lighter connector which was useless.

It only ever had just enough to turn the motor over and was painful on the ear, even though it was plugged in at all times the car wasn't being driven.

Got him a 10amp Ctek and wired up their cable direct to the battery, and now it spins into life instantly.

Obviously the charger makes a difference, but the conduit for the power must also help.
