I tried fitting a fbh from a Jaguar, it didn’t work

So yesterday I decided to try fitting the Thermo top v I got from a 2006 s-type jag, it didn’t work.

So What u did was take my unit out and fit the whole jag unit. I had to swap the exhaust manifold over from the Land Rover unit and if the Land Rover brackets and water pump. Put it all in my truck and ran it up with the wtt software and it run up fine. Next I plugged it in to my truck and basically it had a total melt down, doors locking and unlocking, lights flashing and dash bored like a Christmas tree. I’m guessing the problem was with the can-bus but I’m sure somebody else will have a better idea on here than me. Also there isn’t a coolant pump fitted to the jag unit (I think it’s fitted else where in the system on a jag) and even when I plugged the pump in to the jag unit it didn’t come up in the component test part of the wtt software.

So what I did was take the burner, glow plug and fuel feed from the jag unit and fit it to my Land Rover and it all worked fine. Unfortunately this didn’t fix the problem I was having with the unit (see my other post in this section) but if anybody is having problems with a burnt out fuel cup, glow plug or sensors then this would be a cheap way to fix them as the jag unit cost £25 delivered from eBay.

Pete.

The Jag unit will have different communications to the HVAC system hence the issue you experienced with the vehicle.

Did you fit the whole unit robbie? Maybe mine had a fault with it or maybe yours where from newer jags? Did you get the coolant pump to work or was it just used as a auxiliary heater? Everything worked with mine on the wtt software but it just didn’t give me the option for the coolant pump.

Would maybe be good to find out if some work and some don’t or if I was just unlucky with the one I got.

Was it a straight swap.. or did you need to mod them?

Not a straight swap as all the ancillaries have to be transferred from the old FBH to the Jaguar unit. Pete’s issue with his does raise the potential issue of different firmware between different Jaguar FBHs.

I think I have another in the workshop that I haven’t touched yet. You are welcome to try it.

Thumbs Up

jag FBH swap

Just carried out same swap last week, changed all ancillaries over it fired once then my Hazard lights came on.
Bodsy Bow down
suggested swapping the controller (which was simple to un-clip out of unit)for the D3 it worked perfect, seems some Jag ones work due to programming and other dont.
So in my opinion its best to use the control panel from the D3 then there will be no issues. Thumbs Up

Maybe worth looking which ones work and which don’t. Mine was a 2006 model, I’ll post pics of the labels below. Anybody know how long jag used this engine in their cars? Maybe only the newer ones work now?
