trolley jacks - again
Chaps
I know we've done the trolley jack debate before, and I've got a Clarke CTJ3000QL as it met my requirements for weight (3 ton) and lift height (520mm).
Its the biggest PILE OF CRAP I've had the stupidity to spend money on. It twists, bends, make very worrying noises when lifting, and hasnt got a very stable saddle making me very nervous every time I use it.
Then yesterday, when faced with the MASSIVE task of lifting a Pug 206 (really heavy man!!), it packed up completely with the pump plunger stuck down.
So - the tip will be its next outing
So - in the market for a new one, that will be low enough to go under the Pug, but high enough lift (and weight rating) for the D3.
Is 490mm high enough, or do we need 500mm+ to get a wheel of the deck.
Cheers

You got the wrong model Al
Should have got the Clarke 'Strong Arm', not the 'Quick Lift'
Both I, Shiney Mousse [CG] amongst others have one.
Solid as a rock, but they are heavy.
Even better when you use the SM adapter with your D3.I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

My 3000QL failed under warranty (11 1/2 months ) and Machine Mart replaced it with a new one, on which I agreed wth the branch manager ot upgrade to the strong arm and pay the difference. Much more solid piece of kit 8) but it does weigh a bit more I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

Been looking for a while for one to put in the car on long journeys/holidays etc. seem to be coming up against the same kind of issues which are mainly that to get one that will go high enough they are usually to high to start with
That said this one looks like it might fit the bill http://www.screwfix.com/prods/31904/Van-Ca...Y?ts=30210I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

Well, on the Screwfix note, as part of the job involving the jack fiasco, I sheared the 1/2" square drive off my "bargain" 210Nm screwfix torque wrench. Only set to 180Nm, and hadnt clicked, but went "soft" and then the 1/2 drive end came off.

Personally I wouldn't attempt to lift a D3 with a Bottle Jack.
Due to the hight lift required, a trolley jack will roll to compensate for lift.
A bottle jack won't, in my opinion it will scew to the side and drop off.

now you have got me thinking........, I read somewhere that the coil sprung D3's come with a bottle Jack, is that why LR put a scissor jack in the Air sprung ones.

My scissor jack failed, and I asked about getting a bottle jack as a replacement, and the dealer said all D3's had a scissor jack.

I thought coil sprung D3s had a bottle jack but if you look in the handbook the jacking points are the lower wishbones not under the chassis, so it's not such a high lift.

cant you jack on the axle tubes like the old disco? as there is far less compression in the suspension compared to extension, it doesn't take long at all to get the wheel off the ground.
