Credit, where credit’s due, the 4’s steering is better weighted with greater feedback.
The Fatty has less weight than the ‘5 and is lower, but I’d be hard pushed to say that it handles any better than the ‘4. What it does do is “smooth and luxurious”. I’m not really sure where sharper handling came to have much relevance to Disco and Fatty ownership though 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

I was surprised how light the 5s steering was when I first test drove it.
If it’s a LR to throw into bends then it’s the Velar all day for me, stick it in Sport and Dynamic setting and it will give boy racers a run for their money, even my 4 pot. It doesn’t sound pretty but it shifts.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

If you want a Land Rover that you can throw down a road like a 20 year old in a hot hatch, you need the RRS. It's the only one that has proper engines and handles properly too.
Stick the RRS in dynamic on Terrain Response, the steering weights up a touch, the dampers stiffen (as do the active anti roll bars), the gearbox sharpens up and it covers ground like a sports car. Sure, it still weighs 2.5 tonnes but you wouldn't know it from the driver's seat.
And it still tows 3.5 tonnes, has low range and goes off road properly...Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Mines in for its 48,000 service tomorrow, there’s a fair possibility that I might be clocking up about 200 miles in a Velar of theirs tomorrow... Not really my thing, but I’d be very happy to take one out for a day 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

It’s not for everyone, if you’re prepared for a more car like driving position you’ll get on fine with it.

If you don't want the lofty driving position, you may as well just buy a proper performance estate car...the Velar SVA really competes with the RS6 etc anyway, not the RRS SVR.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Never said it competes with the SVR, I just said the Velar SVA would be my choice.

Fair enough. If that was the sole criteria then it would certainly be in the mix for me too. I do like the lofty driving position, however, so I'd probably take a while to get used to "sitting on the ground".
Certainly, whenever I'm in SWMBO's Octavia, I feel like I'm sat in a hole in the ground. Vans and trucks are sooo big and oppressive from down there. Up in the lofty seat of my RRS, vans etc. are on equal terms and not nearly so imposing. I can see why some people find SUVs/4x4 intimidating - something that I never felt before my first RRS, strangely.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk
