Not sure that I understand the Keystone Cops reference But we have the side steps and they look fine in my eyes BUT above all they are so useful, not just for getting in and out for the less agile (like my 96 year old mother in law) but also for getting at the roof rack (when on) or for putting bikes on the roof when we have the 'travel trailer' on tow.
As far as look go - the black treads blend in very well with the black lower door trim and just the silver edges are really visible and I think it would only cost a few quid to have them powder coated in black - if that is what one wants. LR Discovery 4 XS pulling an Airstream 532 Caravan also own (since new) a 1996 MGF
