How to turn over 4.0L V6 D3 engine without starting engine?
I've just changed one of the timing chain tensioners on my 4.0L V6 D3 and want to turn the engine over without starting it to prime the new tensioner with oil. Would it be okay to disable the ignition by removing a fuse such as the one for the ignition coils?2007 Land Rover LR3 4.0L V6

If you have poured oil over it after fitting which is usual procedure it is not necessary, they usually take a fair amount of cranking before starting after being stripped down, or remove the fuse to the low pressure fuel pump.It can when others can't,

This pretty much works for all vehicles. With the ignition off and key out, I just apply power to the starter solenoid.
On the D3 of any incarnation you can pull the starter relay (R102 on the diagram, R18 in the engine fuse box) and jump the contacts to fire up the starter motor.
With the ignition off nothing will fire.

The engine hasn't been stripped down, so it would fire up immediately. On the 4.0L V6 there's a hydraulic tensioner for the rear timing chain just behind the rear spark plug that can be changed quite easily. It is possible to prime the new tensioner before installing, but given the limited space it makes it extremely difficult to compress the tensioner to get the thread started, which is why I installed it dry and want to get the oil pumping without starting the engine.
