Turned key and nothing happened - momentary glitch?
Morning all,
I'm using my D3 as a daily just now as I've returned my last company car. It's been a joy to use every day; I've owned this car for three years now (the longest I've ever kept a car!) and it still puts a smile on my face when I use it to commute.
Had a bit of a glitch this morning though... I always unlock and turn the key to position II immediately before jumping in and getting buckled up etc. to let the systems warm up. When I then went to turn the ignition this morning, absolutely nothing happened. The key turned all the way in the barrel and sprung back again, but no ignition. I tried again and the same thing happened.
So I then turned it off, took the key out. Re-inserted it and followed the same procedure and the car started first time, no hesitation, nothing unusual. And off I went.
Seems like a strange one... Everything else in the car is fine, it's got a new battery, new-ish alternator, recently serviced etc. Is it possible that it could have just had an electrical wobbly this morning? Has anyone else experienced similar symptoms?

Sounds like the ignition switch is probably the cause?

A squirt of WD40 down the ignition barrel should sort it. 🏴

Mine does that all the time. I really need to get to the root cause. its not "sticking" so WD40 sounds like a iffy idea as it could insulate contacts etc.
Any proven techniques (contact cleaner) or new switches etc. Im obviously worried that one day it wont work at all.Disco 3: Lotus Elise S1: Ferguson T20: Audi A2
