twin battery's -where to tap power for a switching realy. |
|
Tonka's goning to get a scond battery to power the fridge while we are away at the weekend.
its going in the "2nd" battery box.
I have 3 options on the charging front.
1) Order the Traxide kit
Could go this way, but I need it tomorrow and the chap was very busy making units for a large RV order and would be able to ship anything for 2 weeks.
2) I have a 125 amp VSR (voltage sensing relay) from a local boat shop.
This looks to be the easiest to wire up just using 16mm2 cable between the unit and batteries.
3) I have a high power relay from X-eng - X charge.
The easiset to trouble shoot if there was problems but where is the best place to tap into for power for switching the relay while the engine is running.
Another thing
Are these optima or Maxima really worth the money ?
The Maxima costs £200 an standard car battery goes for £70,- I know the maxima should tackle the discharging better, but I cycle the battery down about 3 times a year.
Is it worth it I can buy 2.9 regular batteries for the price of the Maxima.

What are you going to be running off it? “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Hi Caver,
I could be wrong, but I think the first line of his post says "fridge".
Best Wishes,

OK, OK... Fridge Blindness ( I am male)
cold_n_wet traxside would be the best and smallest but given the time restraints you not have much of a choice. Unless you can find a cheap temp way of doing it for the moment.
Any ideas anyone? “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Decieded to go with the VSR for now, may be one of those temporary - permanent jobs.
What does the Traxide do that a switching relay won´t ?

It will allow some power to be taken from the main as well, leaving ore than enough for starting.
It was designed specifically for the D3 with it's higher charge voltage and electric system.
Look up 'drivesafe's posts. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Hi Glen, sorry for stuffing you ( and a few others ) around but that’s another story.
The easiest place to get power is from the positive terminal on the cranking battery.
There is an 8mm pre-tapped hole on the positive terminal and a 12mm long bolt fits perfectly.
You can also find a negative stud bolt, on the driver’s side wall of the auxiliary battery compartment.
Have a look around the page at the link I‘ve posted below, there’s stacks of pictures there that should help you.
