There's alot on this subject but anyway:
Question:
I'm going to go for the Optima YT (D34) as second battery, and the Traxide wiring. Being that its fairly cold where we live would it be a good thing to swap the original battery for an Optima YT (D34).
I.e. have 2 YT's with the Traxide solution?
Would this give better starting /give sufficient CCA, or am I better off with the original cranking battery?
Thanks.

Not too sure, but try looking into the Optima Red Top if you want to use it as a cranking battery. 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

I have just fitted Optima Yellow top and Traxide kit and thought of using a Optima Red Top as starter battery but dealer fitted brand new battery just before I got the D3 two weeks ago. I just sold my D90 to which I had fitted Red and Yellow tops to and they were over 7 years old with no problems at all.

The Optima red top is the one to choose for a starter battery and has a CCA figure of 815 amps. Compare this with the genuine Landrover battery which has a similar figure and things make more sense.
The other natural choice is the LR RR TDV8 battery which is rated even higher than this. The time the Optima comes into its own is on service life. They tend to last a lot longer than the line fit items.
Hope this helps.
