| Tyre Pressure Montioring - WTF |

Noticed the discos tyres looked a little low, so thought I would check them, mainly as I had a reasonable trip for work tomorrow and because I do it every so often.
Anyway, the pressures were down a little not massive but consistent across the 4 - so I inflated them to the book figures for light load as normal.
Anyway, start the car to check somethings and set the heating in case its cold tonight and the warning of 1 wheel having a low pressure  I thought... so turned off, rechecked all, perfect. Message still there.
Had to move the car, started it, checked all round the wheel, error there (who in there right mind thinks 3 warnings is needed for a low pressure!!) made sure it had moved a good amount, parked and got a different gauge and checked the pressures.
All ok, started it - error still there
So I inflate the rear pair (it was drivers rear) to the heavy load pressure and the warning goes.
So now, despite its on light load on TPMS, front tyres are inflated to light pressure, rears are at the heavy load pressure...to make matters worse - it didn't pick up for x months they had lost a few psi.
What's going on...I cant say im happy with the rears inflated but they are within range, on book values - just not right to have to cancel an error that shouldn't be there.

Hi mse,
I'm not sure what's going on with the TPMS, but if it's any consolation I also have got two warnings (once in the very beginning of ownership and one just a month ago); they both disappeared after a while. They puzzled me as well, but never found the time to check them out at the dealer's.
Will check the tyres today (haven't done so for 3 months now, relying on the TPMS) and let you know.

I've had this sort of thing a couple of times, it went after a while. Maybe to do with pressure differences cold v after a run ?

Remember that the TPMS requires that the SPARE needs inflated higher than the other tyres - at least 40psi. This is often why errors appear when the tyres on the road wheels are OK.
Check the spare pressure and make sure it is at least 40.

The car was cold on every test and the problem went by inflating the rear pair to the high load pressure (when TPMS was set to light load and the fronts are on that)
The error has gone...Strange Mike

Does anybody know what's involved in fitting TPS to 3rd party rims. Also cost of parts required.

Hi, had thought of that but as I'm away for weeks on end and I seem to be the only one that checks the pressure thought a good idea maybe to get the extra bits and fit.

If you check and change the air pressure in the tyres when the vehicle has been stationary for more than 15 minutes, then the system is in parking mode so it may throw up a fault until it is driven again.
It won't learn your new pressures until you have driven constantly above 12mph for 15 minutes ...this should rid it of faults  21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
