Tyre Pressures - Off Road

Found this whilst browsing here

In most conditions the vehicle can be driven off-road at the same recommended tyre pressures as on tarmac. However in really muddy, low-traction conditions it can be beneficial to lower pressures slightly to achieve better grip. It is vital that extreme caution is used in these circumstances, as it is possible the tyre can demount the rim if pressures are too low.

I run AT2's and was thinking of trying this out next time off road - I know a few people have commented on doing this in the past (AndrewS springs to mind) but how many others have tried it in the UK in mud?

On tarmac I run at +2 psi over LR spec with these tyres so exactly how much would I need to lower the pressures to make a difference off-road?

thanks Getafix for pointing out that thread.

When I get my inboard pump fitted (soon) I think I'll give it a go at 20/22 in mud to see what it's like
then retry the same at normal pressures

Just hope there's no nasties to poke into the sidewalls

I run general grabber AT2 s at around 10 psi for really sticky situations, I am told they can be used at 6 psi but I prefer not to lose the tyre from the rim or run the risk of pinching
