Tyre sizes in 18 inch

Hello all...

Well the D3 needs new shoes.

Was looking at Pirelli ATR in the OEM size of 255/60R18 but notice they also make STR (more higway bias) in 275/60R18. Slightly larger in diameter.. makes for aorund 3% speedo error... but my speedo is happy anyway so should bring it back to earth a bit,

Has anybody fitted tyres in this size and are there any clearance problems?

Cheers

Mark,
Dont know about Perelli but have not been impressed in the past with their weak sidewalls and soft compound on pasenger tyres. Their 4wd tyres may be diferent.
My choice would be for a road type tyre the Cooper HT+ or as my next set will be the General Grabber AT2

Yes.. was thinking General Grabber but have heard stories of delaminatgion. I really want seomething in an AT, the Cooper HT Plus are "too highway" for me.

Cheers

I've had the General Grabbers on for about 30,000km now. Still look like new. Do a mixture of off roading, round town and long highway trips. Should get at least another 30,000 to 40,000km out of them.
Only got about 28,000km out of the Original Wranglers, and 30,000 out of the second set of Wranglers.
Didn't have much choice in 18" AT's in the past.

Some on here fitted Yokohama Geolander ATS2 which are a little AT'ish from what I read but still good on the highway and quieter than the Wranlgers. I think they are 265/60/18

I was thinking about these for repalcements of the Wranglers.

Well the story continues...

I went to the tyre store after talking with them to look at the Pirelli ATRs.. when I got there he showed me Scorpion Zero.. I said I want ATR. He told me they were not available and that Zero were the ducks nuts for off road work.

The Pirelli web site shows Zero as 100% highway only. (Don't you just love people who know their products???)

So.. a phone call to Pirelli and I now know that the ATRs are on a boat from somewhere... and there are only 30 coming into the country in the first shipment. I now have another tyre dealer involved who has ordered 4 units for me and I'll have them in a couple of weeks.

My first choice was Cooper ATR... not made in ou size but was told they would be available by now. Latest story is another 12 months so we'll see how the Pirelli's go.

Cheers

Hey Mark - there's been quite a bit of discussion on this topic - presumably you have seen http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-zone/52140-d3-18-off-road-tyres.html
best of luck

Australia

I am also due for new 18" road tyres. I have a second set of 17" for offroad so for the 18" rims I want sticky road tyres.

I currently have Pirelli Scorpion Zero, I bought the car second hand, so I don't really know how much milage they get, but from what I can piece together in service records tyres were changed at 36,000km and now the car is at 100,000km, the tyres looked reasonabe new when I got the car at 85,000km - so assume it's now on it's third set.

I find the Pirelli Scorpion Zero grip fine in dry and wet. The 17" rims has Goodyear Wrangler HP on them, so comparing them to Scorpion Zero there is not much difference in grip and noise. Maybe the Zero wins a little, but could be simply difference in profile.

So I think I am down to either Pirelli Scorpion Zero in 255/60R18 or Continental CrossContact UHP in 255/60R18.

Any others experienced either of these ?
