I have yokohama ats on my D3. They have been great from a driving perspective, very quiet and much better than the OEM. Despite proactive care (rotation, wheel alignments etc) they are worn out on the inner side after 30000km. The rest of the tread is only half worn. I suspect the problem is not the tyres, any ideas how I can fix this? LR just replaced the LHF tie rod end so could that be it? TDV6 D3 HSE

You need to get the 4 wheel alignement done. LR Stealer UK charge between 1 and 2hrs labour for this
But it will stop excessive and often uneven wear of the outer edge front and inner edge rear!
Make sure you check your sterring wheel when you pick it up after the work as LR Leeds had 3 attempts to get the steering wheel straight when wheels are striaght - no luck. Then took Polish dealer 2 more attempts before getting it right. Leeds blamed the callibration of their machine. I blame the mechanic for not checking it!

Hi smwilk,
It sounds like:
1. Whoever is doing your 4-wheel alignment doesn't know what they are doing, and
2. you may have worn suspension bushes. Get them checked by someone that you can trust.
Best Wishes,

There was some sort of serious issues after an alignment at one stage after they had replaced yet another steering rack. The LR "Technician" still claims that it was not out of the ordinary however after a very serious argument the whole of the front of the machine was gone over and two new tyres installed. The Vehicle has now done almost exactly the same mileage on the new tyres as they did on the old when they suddenly showed terrible wear tearing chunks of tread off the tyres. Since the last attempt the vehicle is much quieter, noticeably so and all the tyres are wearing very uniformly although the fronts are wearing faster than the backs. This is despite the vehicle being used in exactly the same manner including going to exactly the same places off road despite some serious agro on the issue.
So, working through the issues.
1. Some dealers staff will tell you absolute crap. This was disappointing to me as I feel that most people at the dealer in question are pretty good especially the Manager.
2. Disco 3's can be set up to wear the tyres evenly so if they are not then you need to be telling them that it is their problem and they can both fix it and pay for your excess wear [if it is excessive]. I also have a friend close by with an 2007 HSE with Grabber AT2's on it. Exactly the same as my vehicle - uniform wear on all tyres, faster wear front than rears - and in his case they are at 50,000 km and probably only have about another 15,000 km left in the set. Much better than the OE tyres.
3. Being fair to the dealer and LR, they use external contractors and to an extent what the staff are telling you is what they are being told. Having said that if you think things through this is a very well designed and built vehicle. It makes no sense that some vehicles are showing problems while others dont. The problem is clearly with the set ups for those that are not performing well.

Hi smwilk - for reference, I got 60,000km out of my first set of Yokohama Geolandar AT/S tyres. I now have about 20,000km on my second set and despite a small nick in one side wall and a crack along the tread (off road - mea culpa), the tread is still wearing evenly and worn maybe 2mm from new.
Tie-rod ends would only account for wear on the front end. Maybe as BW said "Mr Magoo" did the four wheel alignment -using the pigeon or duck-toed front end as a reference?
Good luck!

My D4 wore 3 of its tyres badly. Whilst the alignment was within LR specs, the alignment was quite bad according to the alignment specialist, with wheels at opposite extremes and a long way from the nominal specs. Home of LLAMS, for LRs and Jeep GCs

The problem with you blokes is you don't get proper tradesmen !
A mate of mine ( we were both carpenters many years ago ) did the big trip around OZ towing a big van behind a D3 . ( Probably 300 kg-350kg on the tow bar ) And went through several of sets of rear tyres .
Obviously they couldn't do a decent rear whel alignment ( in Sydney or back of beyond )
Eventually in Perth or thereabouts after the nth wheel alignment he got the sh__ts and stood behind the D3, looked at it , and by eye said "thats wrong "
And got them to set up the D3 to his eye . No angles . No degrees . Just by his eye .
Result ?
He's driven it back to Sydney and elsewhere and the tyres are wearing fine .
Conclusion ? Ignore the " mechanics / technicians . Get a real tradesman . An old carpenter .
Cheers John
