UHF Radio Installation
Hi Guys
I bought a compact Oricom 280 UHF radio at the Perth Camping & Outdoor show on the weekend. It is one of the models with all the controls fitted in the handset (including speaker) and the receiver is very small (135 mm deep, 110 mm wide & 29 mm high).
Now for the installation on my 05 HSE
Any advice on:
1. Where to install the unit. It can be hidden as all the controls (including the speaker) are on the handset and it comes with a 2 m handset extension cable. Anyone fitted a unit into the central cubby box.
2. 12V power source for the unit. I am not too keen on wiring it all the way to the battery.
3. I want to mount the antenna on the front left hand side of my bullbar and need to how how to route the cable through the firewall.
Any advice would be much appreciated

RHD discos have a grommet behind the spare battery tray on the bulkhead. Power, piggy back power with an inline fuse from aux socket at back of centre console, if you dont have a fridge feed the wire into centre console and mount the receiver, antennae coming in to centre console to receiver due to thickness may be less easy. Just ideas for you mate
It is very easy to get a switched live feed to the top glove box too, cut some holes into the roof of the liner, noone will ever know even at resale, again by piggy backing aux, would be easier to get your antennae coax there tooCaptain Nick Medhurst would ask:
"What is the first rule when overlanding?"
I would Reply:
