United Kingdom 2014 Discovery 4 TDV6 XXV LE Auto Causeway GreyDiscovery 4

I'm looking at an XXV to replace MY07 HSE. Other half wants me to get a Landmark "cause they're newer and less mileage to go wrong". And our 07 is a money pit. So I can see his point - ish, but the XXV is a stunning car and I particularly love the toys on it Very Happy And the leather! Itching to do some wading..

Noted all the things to check mentioned above. Anyone got any other comments or tips on what I should be looking for? Or should I be looking for a fully loaded MY15 HSE Lux instead? There are some nice ones out there.

cheers

I know I'm biased as I changed my HSE Lux for an XXV. You can find newer models with more miles on the clock, and as long as the XXV you're looking at has been well looked after and properly serviced, then you should be OK. Things you'll probably not get on an HSE Lux are the rear aircon, RTD, wade sensing and blind spot monitoring. As the XXV is MY14, you get the stop/start, but you don't need to worry about DEF.

Would I trade my XXV in for a MY16 Landmark, (nice as they certainly are)? I think not Very Happy

I appreciate what you're saying and I was concerned about buying my first MY16 Landmark due to the DEF.

However, I had no such concerns buying my second MY16 Landmark, as I now see the EU6 DEF as a positive. This is due to the fact that it should be exempt from the diesel crackdown in city centres, for longer than the EU5 models. Thus retaining it's value better.

Plus the fact that for whatever reason, the D4's with DEF go like stink. Very Happy Thumbs Up

Yep - can't find many cars with the rear aircon. Had a salesman tell me JLR stopped it in the D4's because it took the car over the allowed car tonnage and into vans. (So how come it appears on the XXV then?) And there was me thinking they stopped it cause it cost more Confused And rear aircon is very handy for cooling down the kids and dog.

But there are HSE Lux's on the market where the Vission Assist and Detection Packs are specc'd. I could probably live without the wade-sensing Very Happy

Anything to watch out for when I'm crawling over the XXV and checking it? Or issues once you're driving it?

I believe that the rear aircon was deleted due to Type Approval issues with weight and the DEF tank.
I constantly look for XXV's with good history. Don't really see Euro6 v Euro5 as an issue. I have a No2 ticket for emissions in French cities. Already pay the Congestion ransom in London, a few more quid is neither here or there. A diesel ban in London will eventually mean all diesels with the exception of stinking black cabs which are licensed by the Met and buses of course. To be fair buses in Putney High Street must all be low emission hybrids now.
Not all 15 plates are DEF.

All the normal things you'd look for when checking over any D4. It's more the little things that you need to check. RSE headphones and remote - are they there and do they work? Has it it got tow electrics/towbar - if so, has the recall been done on the towbar and do you have the blanking plug for the socket. Turn the sidelights on and check whether the gear selector lights up green - if not, there's a TSB out to change the TCS. In the boot, are the back of the 3rd row seats damp or are there water marks on loadspace cover? If so, then suspect a leak through the DAB aerial grommet. Check both batteries! A few XXVs spent a lot of time at dealers due to them being rather expensive - both batteries on mine were fubared! Do the sunroof blinds on the 2nd and 3rd row sunroofs latch closed and stay closed? Do the flappy paddles work? The aluminium versions fitted to the XXV may be an upgrade, but they don't illuminate at night - I'd rather have had my old illuminated plastic ones! If you have or know anyone who has an IID or fault code reader, take them with you. The dealer I bought mine from was happy for me to plug in and read the codes Thumbs Up
Turn on the ignition and check that all aspects of the driver's seat work. If while doing that you get the Low voltage message, the main cranking battery is probably fubared. On your test drive, note whether the stop/start system works. If it doesn't, suspect that th secondary battery is fubared too - some see this as an advantage Whistle

Thank you - that's amazingly useful as some of those wouldn't have been on the radar at all.

Parked up in Speke Retail Park in Liverpool today and look what was behind me...

Mine's in the one on the left. Does the other belong to anybody here? Unusual to see 2 XXV's.

Surely there must be another colour other than Causeway in the UK.......

If you are the proud owner of a Silver or White XXV make your self known. Thumbs Up (I Think those were the two other colours JLR did them in)
