Hi rich, the tailgate is an issue, I think Martin has posted it as such. The car is so well sealed that the air pressure causes the top section to bounce and make it difficult to close. Try opening another door and then closing the tailgate. If it closes easily, that is your answer. If it is still difficult, back to the dealer for adjustment and maybe you do have a problem.
Sadly, LR is now in the Ford empire as are many marques, like Volvo etc. The D3 is an amasing car both on and offroad, as Gareth proved at Billing this weekend, but it is still new and has querks, that is why Martin started this site and why the site is becoming so popular.
Hope it helps and where abouts in the world are you by the way?

Your dealer should be able to sort it out. There is a technical bulletin on this problem that they can refer to.

I had this problem, and posted on the subject, when I took delivery of my HSE D3 in April. Keeping a door open while shutting helps, however I have discovered that the problem has corrected itself!! I think perhaps the catch was a bit tight at first and has now "beded in". I have no problem now shutting the top tailagate with one hand. 2017 Disco5 First Edition(On Order)

Upper tail gate on mine seems to shut fine. Maybe mine is new (5 days old), will keep Rich's experience in mind.

the annoying thing with my upper tailgate is that more often than not it fails to open fully with just one push on the unlock button. It unlatches but doesn't fully release from the catch so I have to press the button twice. Anyone else have this problem?

I think I've had it, lawman. Don't release the switch so fast. Push it, open, and then release. Maybe that solves your problem. Blue
