Urgent Feedback - Time to replace Inlet Manifolds on D4
Hi guys,
I have been given the dreaded news that my blowing and Restricted Performance is down to a split inlet manifold. The specialist I have it in with says they will replace both whilst they are out, which sounds prudent, but have quoted 18 hours labour... I know it is body off (for most) but 18 hours sounds horrendous.
Any experiences or suggestions on whether this is correct or realistic?
18 hours.....!!!!
Thank you in advance, I need to make a decision on what to do with them asap.

Not a body off job. One side is 7 hours, the other 5

I had mine done about a year ago, was a similar time to what Mikey says, and wasn't a body-off job either!

I recently did the LHS one myself, body on. It took me longer than the pros but wasn't difficult. Well not once I worked out how the injector fuel return/bypass connectors come off! Lost an hour staring, pulling, prodding until I finally worked it out.

Sorry to be ignorant but is this a matter of when not if? Is it a heat thing that causes them to crack?

The originals seemed to have a manufacture or strength in design issue.
It's a known problem.
On the bright side, once changed, the new ones should not give any more trouble.

I'm not convinced they won't crack again. While they have undergone numerous revisions, I am still sceptical. Though that said, as they tend to last around 100,000 miles, how many vehicles will make it to twice that without a crank failure
