Urgent Technical Advice Needed

My auto D3 has started misbehaving in that when you take your foot off the accelerator it does not hold the revs and it appears there is no drive and it appears one is free wheeling or in neutral and when you accelerate again you have to build up all the momentum again. If it happens going downhill you just coast along relying on the brake only to slow down. Feels a bit scary when you meet an oncoming car on a byroad as it feels as you have little control. Take foot off accelerator and it just coasts on until it runs out of steam and eventually stops but wont roll back though. Has the transmission had it or is the fix as simple as disconnecting and reconnecting the battery? Have a lot of driving to do this week and all the building up of momentum after each time I take my foot off the accelerator is eating diesel. Any clues? No faults showing or lights.
Thanking you in advance,

Terence

Is the car cold when it does this or all the time? If it is cold and isn't getting warm, then it seems to be pretty normal.

If its doing it all the time, then something is not right - but I don't know what!

Problem first appeared two days ago when the engine cut out for a split second while driving and engine system fault appeared and it took me a few seconds to realise and put into N. Fault then cleared.
However it is doing this since and even appears to freewheel in sports mode and does not take up the slack until I accelerate again and if I over accelerate it starts dropping down to compensate instead of just accelerating.
Had a similiar problem with a pajero before and they had some sort of a quick fix by disconnecting the battery and resetting the intelligent driving system but dont know how the L R works.

Gear lever feels fine, just that there is no engine braking whatsoever and as soon as you ease off the accelerator the rev counter drops the revs, as used to hold somewhat with the speedo before, especially in sports mode. Driving on motorway when in sixth gear the rev counter drops down and the enging has this idly rattle sound to it.
Could it be on safe mode? or could it be something to do with the torque converter?
Did the fact that the engine cut out for a split second the other day at 60mph when in D cause any damage or has that engine system fault that showed up after that incident, now ok, have to be cleared by dealer to get things ok?
I had a similiar incident with a pajero some years ago and the dealer reset something and all was well. I might give him a bell as it is the exact same thing just this time on a LR.
Expecting snow here again and I dont want to be travelling the byroads with little or no enging braking and relying on brakes alone as I'll be through a set of pads in a week at this rate.

Rev counter appears a bit more stable today but with rev counter at 3 it still does nothing to hold car back and when overtaking or travelling at higher speed the steering feels really light and the car feels bouncy as if in 2wd?
Past Pajero problem was rectified by clearing the adaptive driving settings and re-setting them but I feel problem with D3 is more than that. Booked into dealer for Monday.

Thinking about it, I had a similar thing in the summer - I think the dealer downloaded (Or possibly reset) the gearbox software. Was ok afterwards. Thumbs Up
