I do not think that it will a problem if one of those Disco 3 "took the water" in scotland.........Disco 3 is build for this kind of treatment…..look at the camel trophy Discos they took on the worst off-road conditions and they still sale (and are still being sold) at a very good price.
Remember that this is a land rover not a BMW……it can take the punishment.

Sure and I agree with you but still... All the 4x4 magazines in France told tales of electrical problems with those vehicles after they "took the water"... Thus, one had better be sure that those vehicles still have some form of warranty...
Might be a good opportunity though...
As for the "camel trophy" vehicles, there might also be a sentimental factor explaining why their resold value is so high...

But you know how the French are…complaining on every thing that is not French…similar to us Maltese…happy only with Maltese cars

Gurvan, can you please name some of the “told tales of electrical problems†that where mentioned on the French 4X4 magazine. I only buy LRO magazine and there is nothing mentioned.
This will be of great help for someone who is looking for a used Disco3, one will know what to look for when going to buy one.

Well the one that sticks to my mind is the one about a journalist who botched its article because the fuel gauge defaulted on him and he suffered a dreadful loss of power... (It took him and Land Rover 2 days to find out that there was no more fuel in the tank !)
Otherwise it is mostly some small electrical problems like warning lights that pops up when there is nothing whatsoever...
As for the French complaining on every thing that is not French… I must agree... But then I am French and I know firsthand how we do react ! Still there are, so far, no french-made 4x4, thus...
The Disco 3 has been generally well received even though it is found as too expensive especially when compared to the old ones...

Gurvan, Since you life in Dakar, I presume that you do some desert driving to remote areas, right?
In 1994 I was on a trip to the Sahara in my Land Rover S3 LWB. The route was Tunisia, Algeria, Niger, Mali, Mauritania and my final destination Dakar, Senegal.
I never reached Senegal because I was stuck in Agades Niger waiting for a military escort that never came so I had to turn back to Algeria.
Let me ask you a question, will you risk go on a Sahara Expedition in the new Disco3?

Now, that is THE question...
Right now, I would probably say NO... I don't have the car yet and I do not have the experience of it... Thus, I cannot say that I trust the vehicle...
Let me own my HSE for a while and I'll probably let you know my point of view on that one...
My first feeling would be : why not ? There is catch though... The chances of fixing the vehicle around here when it is the electronic which is failing are NONE... The senegalese and I guess the situation is the same in the sub-region (Western africa) are ill equiped to do it... That would mean having some sort of electronic toolbox to sort out the problem by myself and then if some mechanical problem is to be fixed, dealing with a local mechanist. But that won't be easy on certain problems like the air suspension for instance. Thus I would not do that alone with my daughters on board...
