I always use Mannol, 5-30W Fully Synthetic. Sometimes there is an offer where they throw in a can of engine flush for free which shifts the usual black residue you get with a diesel.
I change the oil & Filter around every 6000 miles and the air filter every 12000 (Every other oil change) Relocated to Mid France from N. Wales March 2021

Shell Helix Ultra Professional AF 5W-30 is what I’ve put in the last three years, every 10000 km. Shell claims it is a “premium” oil but that’s what the local oil shop has always available on tap. Price for 7.7 liters, including changing and disposal fees of old oil, is around 100 eur.
I’ve used Mann and Mahle oil filters and change at the same time the oil is changed. They’re around 10-14 eur inclusive VAT 24%.

Note OP asked oil recommendations for a D3 (petrol) V8. Mannol does have a bunch of different oils and not all suit both diesel and petrol engines. In this case Mannol Energy 5W-30 suits both but the other choices suit only one or the other engine.
Edit: actually subject says V8 but Steve17’s profile says TDV6

I use Royal Purple 5w 30 fully synthetic for higher mileage cars. Never had any problems and the car seems to like it. Change at 10k miles. LR oil filter and drain plug. PAGODA

Castrol for me.
I think I bought the last lot for about £4 a litre when on special offer. I have 16litres in the garage at the moment ready to go! I change about 6 to 7k and to be honest there is still plenty of life left in the oil, based on the colour. LR oil filter and drain plug as well.
