2007 LR3 4.4 V8 HSE Auto Zermatt SilverLR3
why does my V8 LR3 feels sluggish

when im driving my LR3 and i take my foot off the gas it seems to slow down noticeably quicker i.e. the engine braking seems to be stronger. (Similar feeling you have when your driving a car where the tyres have low air pressure). I recently had 22" alloys with low profile lexani budget tyres put on but i dont see how this could have this sort of effect. Also I didnt notice this when i drove home after the tyres were installed. The car has had an oil service 2000 miles ago. This all happened very suddenly.

I would appreciate any help with this.

Thanks

I think you'll find its probably just engine torque. Not being an X5, Q7 etc etc, its been designed to have high torque low down in the rev range in order to drive off road more effectively.

Only way round it would be a re-map.

PM 10forcash you can do a custom map based on the profile of your engine (or something like that). Will give you the oomph you want Smile

Maybe just accept it, LAKV8. Keep your foot off the gas, save money on fuel, drive slowly like the car wants to, reduce the effect of the harsh ride because you've not got enough rubber between wheel and road.

Just wind down the windows and crooze the streets, enjoying da bling. Thumbs Up

... and plan your next upgrade. How about upgrading da speakers?

What did you have before hand? Something small/sporty maybe?
If so then your probably comparing the feel of your previous vehicle to the D3 which is not comparable.

Lay off lads...

LAKV8, stick with 'em, they are only jealous Rolling Eyes

Have you ever driven a torquey diesel ?? I think the V8's mapping is similar.

One of the very few V8 owners here could chip (Mossy) or one of the Americanista's or one of the G4 owning chaps.

I doubt your tyres are affecting this at all.

Oh... and assuming its an auto (can't see from the reply page)... the gearbox is adaptive and will leant your driving style. You may be seeing the effects of this.

ok, I will give it a go.

The D3 has an adaptive gear box. Being Psychic, I get the vibe that maybe you like to accelerate hard and accelerate often. 8) This will tell the box you like it "sporty" and therefore it will hold gears and drop down quicker. Is it possible the box is "expecting" you to want to be in a gear ready to speed off, and is therefore increasing your engine braking???

Just a thought. Does it change after you have just been cruising around? Edit - oh crap, I just noticed Simon allready mentioned this. Censored

I have a V8 D3 and it is a fast as my older BMW 740, I also notice that there is almost no engine breaking when you take your foot of the gas, so I think that LAKV8 has a problem. It sounds like that brake maybe binding or similar. Are any of the wheels warm after a drive?

Seriously, get under the car and check to see those wheels aren't rubbing on the inside. Looking at your gallery, they're very wide.

LAKV8,
Assuming that the vehicle is not in Low Range, I would experiment using CommandShift (manually shifting the gearbox), and see if you get the same effect in 4th or 5th gear. If so, you definitely have a problem.

You can confirm High Range operation by the absence of Low Range indicator lit on the instrument cluster (and message on the info LCD if so equipped) or the telltale lit on the center console switch. Cycling once between High and Low Range might be warranted as well - just to confirm that the transfer box hasn't become confused.

Like Getafix points out, the D3 "learns" from your driving and adapts to it. It's really amazing how sophisticated the vehicle is. I'm constantly amazed at all the cool stuff it does.

PS - Did you let that person program your ride height? I hate to suggest that perhaps there were side effects...
