V8 petrol possible fuel leak and or fuel pump or connector
I'm pretty sure I know the answer but just wanted to check with the collective.
Recently had intermittent crank no start on the V8 no codes with the gap tool have so far replaced the cps just to be sure and am now getting ready to drop the fuel tank.
Iv checked for fuel pressure at the shader valve and iv a healthy jet of fuel comming out.......soooo there has always been a bit of petrol smell sometimes from the rear I'm aware the fuel pump cover plate fails and the sealing ring so there on order plus the electrical connector that burns out and for good measure a fuel pump.
Question is.....is there an inspection plate from inside the car under the rear carpets ??? before I go pulling this lot out .
I know to change them iv got to drop the tank regardless iv done a few lpfp on tdv6s but for the life of me can't remember if there is an inspection plate .

Yeah I was pretty sure that was the case iv been spoilt working on fullfats and late sports

Well parked it facing up the drive and still getting a long crank no start or long crank then start or normal crank then starts.
Will try and magiver something to allow me to connect this next to unless fuel pressure testing kit to the car and see what's going on.

Hi. I may be well off the mark, but I had an intermittent crank and no start on my V6 Petrol 4.0L. Very frustrating, either cold start, or warm start e.g supermarket car park, car warmed up but switched off for 40 mins or so while doing shopping.
Sometimes mine would crank, fire but immediately die. Or crank for say 10 seconds and then start. Or crank but not start. Would happen approx monthly.
Solution for mine was my garage replaced the EGR which has the MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor built into it. I had that replaced approx 2 years ago and have never had a starting issue again.
Like I say, completely different engine, but being the V6 petrol (not an option in UK), thought I would add this comment, wondering if the petrol engines share the same electronic management systems.

Plugged the gap tool in to check live data
Ignition on only engine not running so I can take some live data at the map sensor.

Just looking back at my old files, I would sometimes get these 2 faults when I had my crank but no start issue. I could clear these codes and they they would intermittently reappear (not a constant fault). Once EGR was replaced my engine idled more smoothly. It used to "hunt" and "surge" a bit at idle.

I'm gonna have a good look today thing is I get no codes from gap tool so I'm checking blind. Will be keeping a look out at live data but with these intermittent faults ........

Well I can rule out the map sensor as an issue it's working perfectly well the purple high peaks are the response to me revving the engine.....then again this was engine working.....

But on watching the live data on a crank fail to start sequence the map sensor voltage failed to drop and stated at 2.4 volts so maybe its intermittent sensor will replace and report back

So most likley reason the sensor voltage didn't drop on the non start sequence is because the engine wasn't running so no air pressure change to detect.
I'm gonna call the map sensor as good and iv managed to magiver the fuel pressure testing kit to the car and can report fuel pressure is good at ignition on, cranking and engine running.
Will keep looking

I hope I'm not speaking to soon but.......I think I'm gonna call this fixed.
In the picture I posted testing fuel pressure you can see the bleed off clear tube......well I seemed to be getting a lot of air comming threw with the petrol when letting off the pressure from the gauge when I should of only had petrol.
So I turned on the ignition straight to 65 psi then released the pressure off the gauge and kept the release valve open until all the air cleared.
Car started 1st turn, I did an engine adaptation reset with the gaptool and used the fuel primer function just to be sure.
It's started 1st turn every turn of the key 10 times a day for 3 days so fingers crossed.
